DAVIE — Miami Dolphins defensive end Dion Jordan continues rehabilitation from a knee injury and though he is not ready to return to the field, he said Friday his goal is to play this season.
“Taking it a day at a time and doing what I have to do to get back out there,” Jordan said. “I’ve got to let my body tell me that. So I’m taking it a day at a time and listening to the head trainers. Once I feel like I’m healthy then I’m going to get out there and I’m going to play. Of course I’m dying to. But I’m not trying to continue to have setbacks.”
Jordan was the third overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft but he has only three sacks in 26 career games. Jordan was suspended twice in 2014 and for the entire 2015 seasons for violations of the NFL’s substance abuse policy.
The Dolphins believe Jordan could possibly return to the team much closer to the end of the season. Jordan said he’s a pass-rushing defensive end in the scheme Miami is using this season.
“That is the best case scenario,” Jordan said. “I can’t ask for anything more. I’m grateful to be out here and be in the locker room with these fellas and able to compete. That is the best case scenario. What I do on the field comes with the preparation that I put in. But the best case scenario is being with the team.”
