As I chart the Dolphins defense, I was curious as to what the fans here want to know from a game to game basis before I post a season long thread on it.

What kind of information do you want to see?

I'll leave it as a blank slate for the time being or can add suggestions later if needed. I'll try and comply to any and all requests if possible.

The floor is yours.

Sweet. I'd be interested in knowing base scheme percentages and how often we blitz from those schemes. Ex: we used the wide 9 50% of the time from the base and blitzed on 50% of those downs.

I'm curious because the wide 9 is not blitz friendly and not a single LB on the roster is a good pass rusher so just trying to see if this was part of the plan or if they're just making it up as they go along. I didn't expect to see Alonso and Hull blitz so much ... and it wasn't pretty. Nor did it make a lick of sense.

Excellent, thanks for the feedback. This will definitely be included.

For quick reference, my chart is setup as follows:

Series
# of Plays w/in Series
Down & Distance
Ball Position
Offensive Personnel
Formation
Shifts and/or Motion
Play type (run or pass)
Playcall
Offensive Gain
Defensive personnel
Adjustments
Alignment & Formation
Coverage
Misc. notes (front stunts and/or twists, blitzes, targeted defender, big plays of runs 12+ and pass 16+, etc.)

But then I have to figure out how to properly relay that information and post all that junk so it's makes sense and is easy to read/understand.

I also intend to include clips of tackles for loss, big plays against, notable plays and the like. It's a :poopton of data and it doesn't need to be overwhelming and I just want to make sure I convey everything in an efficient manner to be useful and enjoyable for everyone.

SOS, what game footage are you viewing? Regular TV broadcast or you found access to "real" game footage?

Coaches film: All22 (widened view to include all 22 players) and goal line cams (focused on the line) for each play.

I would be interested in knowing how effective the defense was from the 50 yard line up to and including the red zone. As an example:
Between the 50 to the 40 yard lines: (# of plays made) (includes plays repeated due to penalties)
How often were they forced to punt? (% of plays made)
How often did they try a field goal? (% of plays made)
How often did the field goal score? (% of # field goal attempts)
How often did they advance the ball past the 40 yard line? (# of plays it took)
How much playing time was spent? (minutes and seconds)
This sequence repeats in 10 yard increments up to and including the red zone i.e. (40 to 30, 30 to 20, etc.).

I think this would show a reduction in numbers in advances (number and %) and an increase in scoring %'s as the opposition approaches the goal line.
It may show a variation in the effectiveness of the defense as the opposition nears the goal line, identifying opposition strengths or defense weaknesses, or a combination of both in a well coached game.

Great stuff. I'll include try my best to include all of this as well.

Thank you.

Charles Harris. Solid assessment of our 1st round pick with potential assignments taken into account.

He has been a very popular request. Given that, I think it would be best that we start a separate thread that should be dedicated to his play and development over the course of the season much like @uk_dolfan has suggested in the Alonso thread. I can certainly attribute to clips among other things as well in that respect.

That's a lot of time you're dedicating to watching film. Make sure you don't forget to feed your kid...or yourself ;)

I'd be curious about safety and DT play.

Reshad doesn't look like he's flying around as much as he was at the beginning of last year. And I'm curious to see if Godchaux and Phillips are getting quality snaps in their limited roles, or if they're getting beat like drums.

Do you have to pay for the all-22 film? (I'm pretty sure I know the answer to that already)

Simple one. Points Per Drive.

If you want to make it more complex piggyback on Ray Rs suggestion. Break the field into sections then PPD from each respective section.

what was the coverage on the receptions that were attributed to X by PFF

I haven't finalized it yet, but here is a post from another thread I put up late last night that puts some context to targets and yardage given.

Yes, Hull was targeted a number of times (haven't finished the exact number yet) but here's something for context.

With that taken into consideration, on the 5th play of the Chargers 2nd series a pass was completed on Hull for 10 yards, but the down and distance was 3 & 11. Meaning he fit the criteria explained in the above tweet and stopped the receiver short of a first down and helped force a punt.

So despite him being targeted and "giving up" 10 yards, 11 was needed and he contributed to the defense getting off the field in that particular instance.
