When we have a win like this, on the road against a divisional rival and especially because it is the Jests, I try not to get my hopes too much. In the past a big win like this is usually followed by a big let down. Given our recent history, can anyone get excited that we have turned the page, the corner and we are going to ride this wave to better production in the future. With Dan I anticipated every contest to be a victory, but post Marino; I always have a feeling of impending doom. One step forward, two steps back.
But things changed, Minkah only made 1 mistake - McCain too. Larsen was better than I anticipated, not great, but above mediocre. Baker and McMillan both flashed.. Gore was Gore and Drake was productive. The WRs showed up. RT was good. Except for a couple of calls, the offense was good. Burke, while still employing his bread and butter at times that left me scratching my head, mixed in multiple looks that makes me think there might be some turn around in his philosophy(although I was baffled at some of the ways that NY attacked some of the fronts). Finally, we had a complete game on both sides of the ball at the same time. The best part of the whole experience was that we beat the Jests and shut up Fireman Dan.
I never thought that the pundit's predictions were correct and I anticipate a lot of retractions as the season goes forward from the idiots on TV i.e. "I never thought with the losses they had in personnel they could be this good". So with subdued enthusiasm, I look to the future and at the end of this journey maybe we will be able to pop a cold one and be satisfied by the experience.
After the Dolphins hung on to this 20-12 victory over the New York Jets on Sunday, after playing well at times and poorly other times, I heard a lot of talk about getting better and aiming higher.
I heard a lot about how too many opportunities were wasted.
I heard about how more work is needed.
You know what I didn’t hear a lot?
How good the Dolphins think they are.
