Miami Dolphins First Round Grade

Add together the amount of draft capital those 2 receivers cost, it’s insane.

I don’t think it’s the way to build a consistent winning franchise.

Agreed but at the very least now we have what we were missing on this team, playmakers with the ball in their hands. We ended up paying the premium price but at least we ended up with premium players

I think it was pretty smart on Grier's part. Now we have 2 elite WR's one of them going into just his second year contract. For three years we are going to have (arguably) not just one but two the fastest receivers playing at an elite level in the League for the picks we gave up. Then we can trade Hill when we pick up Waddle's 5th year option or if we decide to extend Waddle early.

Our defense is good enough for deep playoff runs right now, with this trade and the other offseason moves our offense should be ready for a deep run as well.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion but I would make those trades again and not think twice about it. The fact is you can’t win consistently in the NFL anymore if you don’t have top level skill position players and with Waddle and Hill the Dolphins have two of the top 10 WR’s in the NFL.

Waddle barely cost anything when you consider both pieces of the trade as one.

Hill cost a lot but in reality some of what we gave had minimal value.

Add on: You can give up as many draft picks as you want when you have an abundance of them. Had we left ourselves with no good picks for years I'd question it, but we still have TWO firsts next year. People on here like to play financial advisor too much and say we can't afford X or Y.

Our football opinions may be valid, but let me tell you all that our financial opinions are worth less than 0. These guys in the FO working on that aspect are far far far more qualified and it's not like evaluation where you can watch tape. It's complex math.

I will go a bit further then that, and give Miami's 1st round, 2nd round, and 4th round picks combined an A+.

If in early draft of 4 players, you come out with a player that could work out (We will see in the 3rd round), and a player on offense that forces the way teams will have to defend you for the next few years...You've hit a homerun.

I would give it a B at best because Philly completely outdid Grier. It isn’t even close.

Smith and Brown and the Dolphins 3rd this year, spending only last years 1st round pick and this years #101.

Overall, when Miami decided to trade up from #12 last year with Philly and select Waddle.

Dolphins: Waddle and Hill costing Miami “three” 1st round picks, 2nd, 3rd, two 4ths and a 6th.

I like Waddle and love Hill, but Grier definitely paid a huge price to get them.

Eagles: Smith and Brown and Miami’s 3rd round pick this year only costing Philly last years 1st to select Smith and this years 3rd round compensatory pick.

F’ing incredible job by Philly! That’s how to put together a WR duo.

Total master class by the Eagles.

I am of the opinion that the way Miami's been doing it for the past 20 years or so hasn't been particularly effective. The occasional changeup probably isn't a horrible idea.

The Eagles getting Brown is irrelevant to the Miami part of the trade. If they had kept it and drafted a boom or a bust with the pick, it's also irrelevant to the actual trade with Miami. The value of the trade is in the pick itself. Everything after that is out of Miami's hands.

Think about it as a special kind of desert, the kind that is not routinely available - LOL
