Miami Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland unfiltered during pre-draft talk

Look don't the player have some responsibility, just like you guys on your jobs, you fill out an application for employment and tell your employer how great you are, then when you get the job you become a totally butt hole and then you blame your employer for firing yours asses because he won't accept whatever you're trying to get a way with, give Ireland a break, it's a process when drafting these players everbody's is NOT a homerun.

It was telling that he mentioned players who can hold up an elite rusher as being key. I was expecting us to go o-line late, but we might just take a tackle in the first three, if that comment has weight.

We're going QB, Secondary and pass rush early, no question about that. Interesting how he said the depth of the WR class made his first round pick a strong one. Not sure what he means there, but the chances of us taking Floyd, Wright, Hill in the first have faded if he's relying on the depth at WR this year.

in almost every response on evaluating a player, he questions whether they can play nickel or start. Sounds like he kind of slipped up without noticing but Secondary could very well more of a priority than I thought.

I can't stand the awful questions from the Miami media. "How do you measure heart"?!?! Softball garbage.

I would have loved someone to ask "Would you consider the draft a failure if you finish it without getting a quarterback?" Obviously the fans and media would, so would be interesting to get his take.

On specifically how he’s done in the second and third round – “Well, I mean time will tell with John Jerry and Koa (Misi). So Pat Turner’s still playing in the league. He’s not on our roster, he’s still playing in the league so we’ve got to do a pretty good job this year. I’m looking more in the future than in the past.”

Well I'm glad that we're drafting players to eventually fill other teams rosters. I'm sure all 31 other teams appreciate the gesture.

I think when he says nickel or start he's questioning if the player can play 3 downs or are they one dimensional, only good against the run or pass. While the former is preferred there is room for the latter on an NFL roster. That being said, I'd be surprised if a safety isn't drafted in rounds 3-4.
