So what is important Friday night, when the Dolphins finally return to the football field (albeit in a game against the Atlanta Falcons that doesn’t count) for the first time since their collapse of late 2013?
“Score,” Tannehill said with typical brevity.
He continued: “That’s our whole goal as an offense. If we’re out on the field, we want to score points. It’s live football. It’s a preseason game and, at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter, but it matters to us. What we put on tape, what we go out there and show, that represents what kind of team we are and who we are as players, so we want to play well.”

i have a feeling there will be a huge overreaction to this game. I don't think this game will show anything about what to expect in the regular season. I think they will run vanilla plays, and to just see how the young guys play in full speed. Which no one has seen in the pro's yet.

Really looking forward to Jarvis Landry getting some playing time.

Well of course. Watching this game to look for all the things we hope for would be a let down. It's game 1 of the preseason. I'm just looking forward to getting a look at some of the players that are on the bubble that I don't know much about.

All in all, we at least have a football game to watch!!!

There will be a HUGE over the top Finheaven reaction to this game. By midnight tonight it will be a wonder we even show up for the Pats game on September, 7th. As many pointed out tonight could be ugly for the fins as once Tannehill leaves the game we'll be looking at 4th and 5th string QB's as Moore and Devlin may not play. I don't expect much with Lobato and Jensen leading the offense.

All I want tonight is no injuries and a good job by the right side of our o line

Of course people will take tonight's game and overreact no matter what the result. For the Dolphins though it's because they've been mediocre forever so they don't get the benefit of the doubt. If Miami was a consistent winner they'd be able to get away with looking like poo in the preseason (if that's what ends up happening).

That could go both ways. If we beat up on the Falcons first team tonight, people will be crowing about how we've finally arrived, setting us up for that inevitable Dolphins Letdown™ in weeks 1-2.

I don't think the first preseason game is a good barometer of how good the team is going to be, but it is a good opportunity to have a look at how our rookies who run with the first string (James and possibly Landry?) are acclimating to the NFL. I also want to see for myself if Tannehill looks sharp and decisive or hesitant and sloppy.

I'm looking at the 1st team offense and defense, oline (all teams), young corners, all LBs and all Dline. I could care less about the score. If Tannehill and 1st team offense drive down the field and get a touchdown, yank them out the game and I'm happy. The rest of the time I'll spend watching individual positions and players.

The one main thing I'd like to see against Atlanta is for our OL to open large running lanes when it's 1st team vs. 1st team. That Atlanta front with Soliai in there is much improved and I suspect they will want to show it even in a meaningless preseason game. So if we can move people and open up some running lanes I will be presently surprised.

If Miller makes some great moves and slips through a tiny crack of a hole, I will be disappointed even if every run goes for 50 yards or more.
