''I knew I needed to get better in a lot of areas and I think I did,'' he said.
The Dolphins traded up and selected Murphy out of Utah State in the fourth round of the 2008 NFL Draft, but despite lofty expectations, Murphy endured a disappointing rookie campaign.

Murphy, 26, was inactive for the entire season and was surpassed on the depth chart by a player (Donald Thomas) drafted lower and by free agents (Ikechuku Ndukwe and Brandon Frye).

''It was an experience,'' said Murphy, 6-4 and 315 pounds. ``You can never fully prepare for how the NFL works. It was a hurricane of stuff going on all year. It was a huge leap. It's something you just have to sort of get in there and get used to by doing it.''

So for the whole off season he only went home for 4 days?? Wow that is pretty impressive. Sounds like he has the work ethic, now lets see if it translates to the field. I have high hopes that he turns into a pretty good player. Thomas and Smiley have a high injury rate. We need a good back up.

same workout regimen as Jake Long i see.

:rolleyes2: How so? Jake has no fat stomach and Jake's biceps are solid. This kid looks soft and pudgy. His biceps looks like someones moms.

I hope he brings it, but he doesn't look like a weight room warrior.

something tells me he should not even could off those four day. Needs to work making that flaps into strong muscles and on his endurance just like any other player. Does not matter if your sharp for the first half.

this guy dosent look strong at all...im thinking i could play if this guy is a guard.

I believe you missed the sarcasm? I hope that's an old photo or you have to wonder what the guy was doing this offseason.

that would nice if that is an old photo... i dont care if he starts or part of the 2nd.. u he needs workout and improve not just enough to get his fame... if he does it half way and get the starting job and that's all i do not see good results. did u guys here the interview from this guy.. At first i really did not know what it was that piss me off. hes attitude change a little, but does not even have the decency to say he want his team to win and whatever he to do to help the team he would be happy. instead he said i want to start and that why he is there. guess he does not follow his team interest to win. come on even jt does not care where he starts.... just kinda pisses me off seems like everyone else is in a different boat then him.

Not for nothing . . . but he looks in much better shape than Vernon Carey . . . and we just gave him 7 million a year . . . and Vernon plays tackle . . . much more of a finesse position.

Not everybody has Jake Long's body type and work ethic on the OLine . . . . this isn't a beauty contest . . . but if Sparano says he is getting better and he has been in the weight room all offseason . . . I take his word for it and I hope he can help this Oline reach that elite status.

well you are possibly right without us seeing performance and only with a picture, but how much can you really know someone in ota's.. i usually here you see how someone can really perform around training camp and preseason. That is when i make my solid choices on you will do best on the team, who has improved, and he still needs work.. but with only a picture that looks like my cousin IT (as we call him) u can not expect the response to be positive. Jake long needs to be a leader on this team o-line because this guy is only to get better. Call it beauty contest or whatever, but Jake long's is our best 0-line and so shawn and vernon should work on being as good as jake and not under.

When Sparano says Murphy in the weight room during the offseason does he mean he was working out....or just sitting there eating?

That's an old pic of Murphy. He had hair during OTA's this year.

I remember Sparano saying he was down to 280-290 lbs at one point during the offseason while they were trying to "rebuild" his body. Being 26 years old is not a good age to be a project. Unless someone gets injured, I dont see him making the team.

It certainly isn't. However, let's just hope he can be more productive than the last 26 year project that was here. I think Murphy will turn out fine.
