The Miami Dolphins had the third-worst offensive line in the NFL, according to analysis by Pro Football Focus.
According to the report, right tackle Ja’Wuan James was the best overall lineman, 32nd-best tackle in the NFL.
Rookie left guard Laremy Tunsil, who also showed he can play tackle, was the best-rated pass blocker.
James was rated as the top-rated run blocker.
The report suggests the loss of center Mike Pouncey hurt the team, which is true.
It also suggests right guard Jermon Bushrod struggled, which is true. But saying Bushrod was “disastrous in the run game” and the worst run-blocking guard in the NFL seems a bit extreme.
According to the report, left tackle Branden Albert got worse at the season progressed, which is true, but… Albert played through a serious wrist injury.
The Dolphins played most of this season with four lineman who had played left tackle in their careers.

Laremy Tunsil (left) was a well-rated pass blocker in 2016. Dallas Thomas (right) was cut after a bad outing. (Allen Eyestone / The Palm Beach Post)

The Dolphins at times also had four first-rounders on the line: left tackle Albert, left guard Tunsil, center Pouncey and right tackle James.
Miami invested $28.6 million into its offensive line in 2016, according to Spotrac.com. Miami’s investment of 19 perecent of salary cap to offensive line was fifth-highest in the NFL.
And the only position group Miami spent a higher percentage of salary cap on was defensive line.

Here is why it seems hard to believe only two NFL teams in the NFL had a worse offensive line:

Tannehill deserves a decent Oline after the absolute beating he's taken over the years. He wasn't hit as much this year but still suffered a severe injury. During that 8 game stretch where the O-line played halfway decent Tannehill posted a 102 QB rating. That's half a season with a top 5 rating in the league. He had career highs in QB rating, completion %, and YPA in 2017 and the line is still below average! If we had a top 10 offensive line I genuinely feel like we could score points at will. We have a few pieces in place and the depth is improved, it's time to fix this once and for all. Make it work Tbaum

Albert is not going to get any better, I think it'd be a mistake to rely on him at LT next year. James has regressed. Pouncey is always injured. The only lock for the future right now is Tunsil, and he's only here because he smoked weed through a gas mask at some point in his life... Whether you think thats a good thing or not is irrelevent, real question is how ****ing difficult can it be to field a somewhat decent ****ing OL?

I can say something negative about this but lets look at some positives. Imagine if our oline was average I can imagine the HAVOC we can create on offense. Look at home many games we won and still manage 22pts a game 17th in the league.

The line definitely wasnt great

3rd worst in the league? Does that even sound remotely accurate to you? 23rd in sacks allowed! How many rushing yards? How many passing yard? PFF can go kick rocks. WTH kinda matrix are they using?

I would say middle of the pack. They had a great 6 game stretch with a healthy Pouncy. Before that was pretty bad and after that was just ok. They have alot of work to do

This is why the narrative of "the off-season will be used to shore up the defense" doesn't quite hold water. Gase loves offense and knows the line didn't perform adequately enough. I could see another strangely offense focused off-season when the masses are demanding defense. This team is leaking more oil than many fans would like to admit given their playoff push this year. The ghosts of poor personnel acquisition are still looming large for this franchise.

People stick to the 3 200 yard games... Im in the middle of a tourney right now, but just go to pro football reference and see for yourself how many times we struggled to get to 80 rushing yards in a game...

If Gase and company focuses more on offense this offseason then defense then they need to be fired immediately if not sooner.

You can't look at passing and rushing yards in trying to define how an O-Line played. Russell Wilson with Beast Mode is a great example of a crappy o-line with decent offensive stats. Miami ranked 2nd to last in first downs in front of only the Rams, 25th in 3rd down conversion, had the 4th most penalties for an offensive line with the 3rd most penalty yardage, and were a dismal 0-4 going for it on 4th down!

To the peeps who think the O-Line played well, you are delusional!

imagine a 100% healthy Albert, Tunsil, Pouncey, Bushrod and James? That's a Top 15 line. Now imagine signing a Kevin Zeitler or TJ Lang to play RG? That's a top 10 line. Now replace Albert with Sam Young and replace Pouncey with Keith Urbik and now we're are bottom 10 lol.
