When vice president Mike Tannenbaum outlined parts of the team’s strategy for the next few months during Senior Bowl practices, he said Miami is looking to extend at least two of those players.

“We’re going to prioritize them,” he said. “We’re going to try to keep our own the best we can. We’ll continue to do that and hopefully if we’re sitting here in August, not only have we kept some of our own but hopefully we’re also talking about two or three meaningful extensions of guys that are prospective free agents heading into 2018, because that’s something that again is going to be really important to us.”
The most obvious candidates for new deals are receiver Jarvis Landry and safety Reshad Jones. There have been no talks with Landry, who has one year left at $1.1 million. Jones, who missed most of last year with a shoulder injury, will make $8.1 million in the upcoming final season of his contract.
Beyond that, the Dolphins must be mindful of a few other guys potentially worthy of extensions. Linebacker Kiko Alonso and running back Damien Williams will be restricted free agents this year. Miami also has unrestricted free agents in receiver Kenny Stills, defensive end Andre Branch, linebacker Jelani Jenkins, safety Michael Thomas and others.
