the Miami Dolphins appear on the verge of hiring Jeff Fisher to fill their head-coaching vacancy. The NFL Network, citing anonymous sources, reported Fisher was "close" to accepting the job.

Fisher was always considered the front runner to replace Tony Sparano, who was fired with three games remaining in the regular season. The Dolphins, who have missed the postseason the past three seasons, would have a coach who brings an impressive resume.

Fisher has a 142-120 career record in 16 seasons with the Tennessee Titans. The highlight came in 2000 when he led the Titans to the Super Bowl, where they lost 23-16 to the St. Louis Rams.

If Fisher is hired, it would end a coaching search that just days earlier had the Dolphins scrambling for a backup plan. The Dolphins and Rams were the finalists for Fisher, who was reportedly leaning toward joining St. Louis. Various reports cited Fisher's ties to Rams vice president Kevin Demoff. Demoff's son, Marvin, is Fisher's agent.

I know that there is many threads already and if this needs to be merged sorry. . . Just figured it was worth a read

Close...leaning...nothing concrete yet.
Looks encouraging, but take it with a grain of salt.

A yound Don Shula. The weather in Miami is 70 and sunny. Jeff Shave your stache ,get yourself a tan, A latin chick, a Wade jersey and a super bowl ring.

Wow, the close ties to St Louis is probably why he even went there. I know a friend of a friend type deal. Those never seem to work out.

NOT written by Omar. This has a chance at validity.

At this point, I don't want to hear that he's "close" to signing. This lame *** sports media needs to report when he has agreed and is just waiting to announce.

Nice to see it on the Sun-Sentinel, but unfortunately the two reports mentioned in the story are the same two reports we have been discussing on here for a few hours already.

Where did Rosenhaus say anything? There's nothing in that story from him.

Not that this means anything but Omar and Berardino have been very active on Twitter today until a few minutes ago. I asked them about the Sentinel publishing this but no response. They have both disappeared.
