Miami Dolphins: Kenny Stills Replacement Already In South Beach?

There's really nothing to be added to the "should we re-sign Stills" discussion. Diminishing returns at this point. IF he moves on, sure, might as well take a flyer on a 5th rounder to add much needed speed to that WR corps (certainly not a replacement), because it sure as hell shouldn't happen before then. Bolstering the defense becomes even more important.

Shane I just hope we can draft some play makers on defense.

Speed does not equal deep threat. i.e. Mike Wallace was a speed threat, not a deep threat. Stills is a deep threat w/ his abilities to run somewhat better routes and excellent ball tracking skills.

Gadget players like Drake and especially Grant pose no danger downfield.

* I should correct myself by saying Stills is a good route runner, it's just that he misreads coverage more often for my taste. Hence the low % of receptions per targets.

They could also send Parker deep and use the new TE as the X. There's plenty to work with to replace Stills' production if we get the 2nd second seam TE.

Stills dropped some of those deep balls as well.

Gase has proven to be very creative with the use of his personnel, so if we were to not resign Stills I don't doubt that he has a viable plan in reworking packages and route concepts to fit the roster. What I described was generic prototypes of the receiving positions and is not a concrete layout of their utilization. That said, Stills still provides skills that are not available with any other current members of the team.

I remember one blatant drop in game 1 vs Seattle, I can't recall any others on deep throws.

KD Cannon would be a perfect Stills replacement. If only we didn't have holes on defense :(

Cannon is expected to go in the 5th or 6th round and I doubt there will be many defenders there that are really going to solve many of Miami's issues.

Stills had 2 dropped passes in 81 targets and most people only remember (and want him tarred and feathered over) one of them. Of all the valid criticisms about him, not sure why this invalid one keeps coming up. And to be honest, the way he responded to that infamous drop makes me want to keep him more.

Signing Stills is a smart move because it keeps everything on schedule, those 9 Td's were nothing to sneeze at, T hill was injured and it could've been more, 7.5mill X4 =30 million with 17 million guaranteed should do the trick.

I just think you overpay for every free agent you sign. Free agency = over paying there's not way around it. Find it odd folks seem against overpaying your current players but have no issue with overpaying a splashy signing makes no sense. If not Stills we will overpay somebody but will they make an impact?

He outproduced ex Baylor WRs Corey Coleman, Terrance Williams, Josh Gordon, and Kendall Wright who all went in the first three rounds. After he puts on a show at the Combine he'll be a late 2nd-early 3rd.
