Almost anyone outside their building would quickly size this group up as undermanned. They dressed four linebackers last week, asking Kiko Alonso and Mike Hull to play every snap, and won’t be in much better position for Sunday’s game at the Jets.
Alonso and Hull are in line to start again, with Allen likely next in Miami needs three on the field. After that, Justin March-Lillard and recent trade acquisition Stephone Anthony are available. March-Lillard played only on special teams last week, and Anthony might not know the playbook well enough to contribute.

Bit of an understatement: "They got through last week holding the Chargers to 44 rushing yards but struggling a bit in pass coverage. "

More like "Undersized and overwhelmed but at least they made it onto the field"

Was just looking at the stats. Miami had exactly 0 PDs (passes defended) against San Diego. Zero. That's almost as good as sending no one out into coverage at all.

That's what I said after the game. 39 passes and not a single hand on a football by our defense, not to mention he completed 31 of the 39 and Rivers got hit a grand total of 3 times only.

Ozzy rules!!

The Chargers were just salivating at the thought of exploiting the linebackers through the passing game and abandoned the run in favor of lighting up the pass defense. See New England.

Gotta think the plan for Mcdonald when he comes back is linebacker/safety hybrid

I keep hearing this suggested, and it makes sense me, not having ever studied a playbook myself. Are there examples of teams that have used a safety type player as the third LB in their base defense (even if the guy was labeled an LB)?

The back seven needs to be Miami's focus in the upcoming draft. I do like what I've seen from Allen, but I think he's a depth guy. Same with Anthony. I don't think the Dolphins envision him as a starter.

The Timmons situation has made linebacker a bigger priority moving forward. I wouldn't doubt if the Dolphins deal Timmons next season. Even if they don't, he's always been a short-term solution so finding a strong side starting caliber linebacker is up there on the list of needs. This needs to be a complete player, someone who can stop the run and cover in the passing game.

Corner seems like the top need, but we'll have to see how Howard and Tankersley develop. Game one was not kind to the secondary.

All this stopped the Chargers running game crap - hell, they didn't stop the passing game.

Exactly which alternate timeline are they living in?
