DAVIE - Matt Roth says his injured groin has healed.

If he had to play today, he could.

"Heck, yeah," Roth said Wednesday at his locker.

Now it's just a matter of waiting another week and a half before the Miami Dolphins linebacker can start practicing with his teammates, something Roth hasn't been able to do since organized team activities ended in mid-June.

Yes, it's going to be Oct. 26 before Roth can return. Originally, it was thought this bye week would count against the six weeks he must stay on the sidelines while on the reserve/non-football injury list, but Roth said he has since been informed otherwise.

That means Roth can't be traded by the Oct. 20 deadline, as initially thought. Players on the reserve list, injured reserve or the physically unable to perform list may not be traded, according to NFL spokesman Michael Signora.

So we get him back in time for the rematch with the jets....

How effective he will be is a different story. He's missed some time now and probably has alot of cathing up to do.

Question is...do we need him? Miami's run defense can't get MUCH better...and that's Roth's strong suite.

i don't understand all this trade talk... Roth is younger than both JT and Porter ... Roth is important to the defense... he is GREAT against the run ... Sparano loves his toughness and work ethic... and remember he played with that injury for at least 2 seasons that we know of... Roth's age and his almost flawless transition to OLB is priceless IMO ... he is a keeper!!! i would hate to see him go and we get STUCK with 2 over aged and declining OLB's in Porter and Taylor .. remember the fans ain't calling the shots for the team, BP and Co. are... and i think they love the guy... he did wht was felt needed to be done to FINALLY correct the injury issue .. but unfortunate for both he and the Dolphins... it didn't heal fast enough ... give this guy a break... Taylor and Porter are on their last legs and are now hurt themselves... he is coming back just in time... say goodbye to Anderson or Moses!!!

I'm happy to have the guy back....We have been real good at run defense but we'll only get better now.

Yup, if their was ever a Sparano guy it would be Roth.

Question is, can he be trusted? Does anyone know what the heck happened to him? Will he lie about being hurt, and still play, only to lose a game or two? Lord knows we are already in a hole, and we can't afford to lose games because someone can't tell their coach what's going on...

YEP!!! Roth was one of the 1st guy's that Sparano pointed out when he 1st took over as coach... he said. that Roth was noticed when he was on the Dallas coaching staff ... i don't think Roth is going anywhere... and i'm willing to bet he gets a new contract here with the Dolphins, once he shows he is healthy again... if not... he'll be gone...

I think so man. I love Taylor/Porter but I think sometimes their age catches up to them when they have to play every down. This will allow them to take a rest when its a sure running situation and come in when it is a 3rd and long. They will be able to come in fresh.

Yeah, i suppose. i just hate the way the whole thing went down.

Agree with those who comment on him staying.

1. Youth is on his side
2. Big run stopper
3. When back healthy can play full game/season

It will also allow the original plan to take place with Taylor. i.e. share reps with Porter and come from his natural right side.

This will allow Taylor and Porter to be fresher in games and may even lengthen the career by another year or 2 of both these guys.

I just hope he gets back into shape pretty quickly and gets on the field.

Also.. who goes... a LB? or another position, to make room?
