The surest sign the Miami Dolphins have moved out of free agency intensive mode and into draft mode can be seen around the team’s building Friday.

Dolphins executive vice president Mike Tannenbaum? He’s not at team headquarters in Davie, Florida.General manager Chris Grier? He’s not at the training facility in Davie. Head coach Adam Gase? He’s not there, either.

No wonder the Dolphins aren’t bringing in back-end free agents for visits and haven’t done so the past few days. The club’s braintrust would not even be around to meet and greet. And where that braintrust is Friday tells you where the club’s mindset is as well. Tannebaum and Grier are at the University of Michigan Pro Day in Ann Arbor, Michigan today.

Grier was at the Ohio State Pro Day in Columbus on Thursday and the Dolphins were also represented at the Notre Dame pro day.Gase is not at the pro days. He’s already in Arizona in advance of the NFL annual meeting that begins Sunday in Phoenix.

The point is while Dolphins fans and other observers might be studying free agency lists to see who gets signed next, or wondering the status of linebacker Zach Brown or defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins, the Dolphins are more crisply focused on their college scouting and draft plans.

The offseason has indeed progressed to focusing mostly on the draft.

Incidentally since Miami is at Michigan's pro day- this is good to hear...

TE Jake Butt tells Mike Mayock he could be ready to play again by mid-July. Ahead of schedule.

I'm ready for the draft. Just wish we had those picks we gave up last year for Carroo. This was the draft to really load up on young talent

Ozzy rules!!

Hey Albert, what do you think are the chances we move down from 22? and if we move to the late 20's what would that bring us in return?

Ozzy rules!!

could be

gil brandt says his best position is running back

don't shoot the messenger

Hes a rare talent IMO. he could probably succeed at multiple positions. LB or SS in my opinion

I would lose every ounce of respect I've given this staff if we draft peppers in the first rd.. too many unknowns he's not a first round pick imo

I'm already on record as saying I think that a move down would be a good possibility, but of course it will depend on the circumstances of who is there at 22 vs. Miami's board... if most of their guys are gone and a team wants a move up or another team wants another pick in the 1st round who already has picked etc..

If we do move down I would assume we could get a 3 maybe towards the higher-mid range?

All that being said if one of their top guys are there I think they stay at 22.

I agree. Trade down to 30th or so. Draft Jordan Willis and get an extra 3rd

if they move down I bet it's into the 28 to 30 range and they pick up a late 3 in return...most likely a contender

cause this draft is too deep between 40 and 75 or so for non contenders to give up picks

I could see that if Miami thinks they have a higher appreciation for willis than the rest of the league does

which they may

I'm reading all this as you are high on Taco- and not so much on Willis. So you think Wills goes in the 2nd rd?

it isn't that....hell I was the first one on the board to say this kids the ideal scheme fit and while I wpould target him at 54 given the ideal scheme fit nothing could be ruled out...the very first one...but at the same time I didn't see top 25 pick talent on tape,...on tape he looks very scheme specific to me just so happens to be our scheme so I didn't think other teams would be as high on him as us but when you test like he tested it brings everyone else in the league back into thinking I can make this kid fit my scheme given his assets

eesti made a good point he's only 21 too...so that helps him...

I will say though if you do move down from 22 to 30 say targetting him it's gonna take stones if all the other top rated de's are already gone come your 22 pick and you better know not only the teams behind you's needs but you better be sure that your grade is more top 25ish and the rest of the leagues is more top 40ish cause otherwise you playing with fire of being trumped

especially at a premium position like de

at tacos pro day I see....2 of the 3 head honchos

Michigan seems like a no-brainer.

Taco = high value position, rotational need now and long-term need
Peppers = intriguing prospect if you can find a home in your system
Butt = value with injury, need combo TE to compliment one-dimensional guys on roster
Not to mention the Olinemen who could be available later in the draft, as well as the DBs.

Plus - since when does Ross not want Michigan guys??
