The Dolphins officially placed defensive tackle Vincent Taylor on injured reserve Thursday, and if that sounds familiar, there’s a good reason.
Taylor, who has a knee injury, brings to 13 the number of Dolphins on IR.
That’s more than the past two seasons combined.
It also goes a long way toward explaining why the Dolphins are staggering through a losing season after making the playoffs last year, when they finished with just four on IR. (The Dolphins ended 2015 with eight on IR.)
The uptick undoubtedly will be a topic of internal discussion after the season, especially for an organization that invests so heavily in sports science. Is there anything more that department could have done to prevent injuries? Any steps the trainers or medical staff should consider moving forward?

I remember when Parcells came in he said there was a problem with all the injuries and would explore why it was happening. Don't remember anything else about it.

Injuries happen to all teams. It's part due to bad luck and maybe players can help themselves a bit to with certain things but it's football.

It's also WHO is injured that makes it so bad.

No one missed Bushrod, Thomas or James. Them being out improved the OL and playmaking. Injuries weren't that bad. Worst ones were Tannehill and McMillan

I do know that the home field has been an embarrassment for the organization. Some one should not get a bonus this year, and perhaps someone should be fired. If the practice fields are this bad, then there is definitely a problem. The poor field management may have contributed to the number of injuries, but it could be the field conditions had no impact. I have no facts.

I thought the Dolphins had a sports analytics department. There should be some trends in the data, but trends do not mean there is actionable intelligence available.

All fields get chewed up. Hard Rock was very bad for only one game this year. The Miami Hurricanes share the field so it gets a ton of usage. I don't blame the field for the injuries, the violent hits cause injuries imo.

If you have players dinged up why play them this week? **** put them on IR case in point Thomas (who you are cutting anyway so no need to injure him).

Let the youngsters play this week.

Any idea if the South Florida weather has to do with the wear and tear? I'm curious for the stats guys is there a correlation between injuries and regions in the NFL?

Warmer regions tend to have more players on IR? Maybe because of the weather itself or perhaps the maintenance of players by the FA is different. For example more indoor facilities because it's too cold/snowing etc outside.
