Having lived in the Detroit area since 1992, I have been forced to follow all of Michigan's sports and that includes the DETROIT LIONS. Since they drafted Suh their DLine improved tremendously but they totally ignored their LB and secondary. Everybody who played Detroit for the past 5 years would tell you "all you have to do is beat the front four and you're and its a touchdown." Coaches after coaches the problem lingered until its too late. They wasted Suh's talent for five years.

The reason am bringing this up is I see same pattern with the Miami Dolphins. The weakest positions on the Dolphins right now are the MLB and Right corner spots. Miami must not repeat Detroit's mistakes or negligent. If they want Suh to improve the defense, they must help Suh too. They must improve the linebacking corp and the secondary, specifically the right corner spots.

Now, am not a draftnik by any means and I ate mocks however, this draft provides a very special opportunity for the Dolphins to do just that ie help suh out. How do you do that ?
Take you first round pick, draft a Corner and your second draft a LB, or vice versa. Period. Then with your 2 5th round picks, do the same thing, in Jimmy Johnson's way double down and your defense is fixed, forever. Here's hoping Miami does not repeat Detroit's mistakes.

Go Phins!

Good post. Agree completely. Without scoring a top WR at 14 I'd much rather see us continue to stock the shelves of our defense and attempt to solve our problem at Mike.

Thank you, a great post and point. Suh is a dominant player, but if you don't get other decent players around him, teams will just double/triple team him and take their chances with lesser personnel at the second level. He immediately helps out our pass rush and DB's by giving the QB less time, but the LB's are key in stopping the run and short/middle routes that they will use to get around that problem. If we are not going to address the problem in FA, then we must use a top pick in the draft to do so. Using existing personnel is just not going to work. I surely hope they have some plan other than just staying status quo!

I wouldnt mind a trade down scenario that pairs carl davis with suh, not real sure where most have davis slotted to go but he looked exceptional at the senior bowl.

The Dolphins have an opportunity to build a championship caliber defense now that Suh is aboard. I like the idea of pairing Suh with a Shelton or Brown at defensive tackle if one of those guys are there. A trade down to target a linebacker or corner is also possible. I don't think Trae Waynes makes it to #14.

Miami has to put more talent around Tannehill as well so which direction do they go? A little bit of both, heavy on offense, heavy on defense? I think if one of the top three wide receivers are there (Cooper, White, Parker) that would be the direction I'd go at #14. Todd Gurley is a wildcard pick for this team.

Biggest improvement to the defense I would like to see is COACHING. You could have the fastest car in the world, if the driver sucks the car will never display its potential.

I agree as far as some of the defensive calls and schemes. I do think we had very good positional coaching at DL and especially LB coaching this year that really helped us out with guys like Jenkins.

The past couple of years have taught me that you don't need a stellar offense to compete in the NFL, you just need a solid defense. I really hope they focus on defense in this draft.

I am all about drafting a CORNER at #14.

Providing one of the top 3 are there. Tre Waynes of course. And I know it would a major hold of breath, but MARCUS PETERS is the best. He has no doubt, pro bowl in near future skills. But, he has a real issue with any and all "authority" figures and his outbursts on sideline with assistant coaches is documented. He is a young man with emphasis on young and that's a factor and probably needs to cut down on the hip-hop.

Of course, he says he has learned from his mistakes and according too him, he has taken responsibility and has taken steps to curb his issues. Its draft time. He knows he lost a major amount of money, and could fall very, very far. He would like to make that money back for sure and this could be all talk. Or, the kid got the message! He may have seen after getting booted that there is limits to love and he is not above the game. His draft stock (would have been a top 3-5 pic) looks in jeopardy and he just may have woken up.

Peters is a true lock down corner, as is TW, but has better ball hawk abilities. I see bowles taking him if TW is not there. Guys with the talent Peters has are rare and teams will take a chance. Big stretch as he is not a philbin type player, but, philbin doesn't choose the players, Dennis Hickey does. And we need someone with Peters skills in the worst way. We have one legit starter who is undersized and old and could be playing his final season and no one after that. No depth. In this nfl, you better have at least 3 legit starters and two more who are not far from it.Grimey has made plays but at this point, he is absolutely no match for brandon marshall or the the bill's and pats wr's. And one, maybe both the jets or pats could take a big time we in this draft. We have to counter act that.

This is a big time WR draft. I usually don't like to wait on big time skill position players and the, "we can get one later" thing just means you are ending up with a weaker player, but, in this draft, teams will be able to land a starting wr clear into the 3rd round so I would go Corner first and WR later.

I don't think Collins is in the class that waynes and peters are. I know the gurus disagree, and I am not saying he sucks, far from that but if the others are gone and we wanted a cb, trading down 5-6 spots and nabbing him would be fine.

And this guy, he could be taking that next step........... .

I want Eric Kendricks for MLB on this team. I think we can trade down in the 1st and still pick him up and get an extra pick also.

I would rather trade down and select Byron Jones in the first and Perriman or Dawson in the the second. Maybe even trade down twice.

Well, we were almost there last year with Delmas and another overrated injured db in Finnegan without Suh.. If they stick with Koa 'can't cover a tight end' Misi in the middle than we'll be looking to Suh to be a one man army in the middle. Huge mistake, imo.... I can see the Patriots exploiting us 5-10 yards in the middle as usual.

Perriman is basically a 1st round lock now.

This^

We could easily pick up a 2nd round pick if we're trading back into late first 25-30

Good post! I think we take a WR at 14 and go defense with our next two picks. I hope our organization isn't sold on Koa Misi being our middle linebacker, we need to draft one capable of starting day one because Koa just isn't the guy for the job.

Agree with what you're saying, Suh is great, but for it to make a difference in the W column, need to fill out the rest of the defense. We have to address CB and MLB.
