Pro Football Focus ranked all 32 of the NFL’s offensive lines and the results are unpleasant for the Miami Dolphins.
The unit assigned to protect Ryan Tannehill ranked 30th in the league — the third worst in football. The breakdown is as follows, entering Week 9.
Pass blocking rank: 27th
Run blocking rank: 30th
Penalties rank: T-8th
The saddest part of this is the Dolphins feature three first-round picks up front in Branden Albert, Mike Pouncey, and Ja’Wuan James. Starting guards Dallas Thomas and Billy Turner — both third-rounders — just might be the worst starting guard duo in the NFL in pass blocking.
Making matters worse is the injuries suffered to this already thin group. Albert has already missed two weeks and now James is out for a few games with a toe injury.

It's always been my opinion that we'll never get a true evaluation of Tannehill behind this line.

Sweet, we improved by 2 spots!

Absolutely! This would be a 3-4 win team without Tannehill that last few years.

What's head scratching is how we go into the offseason and never make a real commitment to fixing that problem once and for all. Year after year!

No one on our current Oline is too good to be replaced.

Wow, we're 30th! That's two spots higher than I thought we'd be. And I can't believe Seattle is dead last. Wonder if they regret trading Unger for Graham? Talk about something that hasn't worked out at all. Graham's been invisible in the red zone and the Seattle OL is awful this year.

Matt Moore would be undefeated right now though!

Hell yeah he would be! After throwing 3 interceptions, and being down by 20, he would throw 3 60 yard bombs for touchdowns. You know why? Because he is a real QB! Tannehill is just a WR with a 66% completion rate last season and is on pace for 4 400 yards behind the 30th ranked oline. Bench him!

Of course that distinction has NOTHING to do with the how well the qb plays. Nah. My guess is that Tannehill is the sole reason the line is ranked 30th.

I really think the OL has dictated our play calling schemes, forcing us to throw tons of bubble screens and quick hitters instead of opening up the passing game more. Same with the running game. A lot of our runs are based on deception, versus "yes, we're going to run the ball between tackles and there's nothing you can do about it". I am not sure Tannehill is the QB we need to go all the way, but I also cannot judge the man based on the 5 guys protecting him. With the $$ invested in our QB, it would be beyond baffling if this admin didn't soon invest in the OL to get some form of return on the QB investment. Honestly, finding out this unit is ranked at or near the bottom is kind of a relief (not a surprise, however), which does show there is reason for hope if we can improve at the guard position. I think we're in great shape at the tackles and C.
