There are tons of new faces on defense, and most of them are ranked in my top 10 Dolphins newcomers story. This franchise is going with a youth movement, and as a result the Dolphins will be fairly young on defense.

If everything goes as planned the Dolphins will be looking at six players starting at new positions – NT Randy Starks, DE Phillip Merling or Jared Odrick, ILBer Karlos Dansby, WLBer Cameron Wake, SLB Charlie Anderson or Koa Misi, and ANYONE’S GUESS at free safety – on that side of the ball.

But despite all those new faces, and new names, I would like to remind you that there are no guarantees the unit will be good, or even improved. You just don’t know because of chemistry issues!

For instance, the secondary got rebuilt last season, and as most of you might know they struggled mightily in 2009, more than any other unit, and that was with and without injured starting cornerback Will Allen.

And it’s not like the Dolphins decision-makers are certain they addressed the glaring hole at free safety, which will feature a three man competition between Tyrone Culver, Chris Clemons and rookie Reshad Jones. That spot is one of the major questions this regime has left unanswered.
