Miami Dolphins offensive tackle Ja’Wuan James. (Allen Eyestone / The Palm Beach Post)

DAVIE — Ja’Wuan James is the highest-paid right tackle in the NFL in 2018, at $9.34 million.

But James doesn’t want to talk about it.

“I am just focused on having a good year here,” James said Thursday, when asked about Miami’s decision to process their fifth-year option. “I am focused on having a good year for this team and that’s it.”

I've always liked James. Sure he has his flaws. And has had unfortunate luck with some injuries, but he has always been a quiet, team-first professional.

I hope he rebounds with a great year.

I hope we can hang on to James for a while. Guy seems like a pro and when in the right system he can be really good.

I think he's a good RT......I don't believe he's the best RT in the NFL thought and yet he's the highest paid RT in the NFL. He seems like a nice enough guy but I'm hoping he'll be able to put it all together. We need both our OT's to play well this year. I believe the middle of the line will be fine. If James and Tunsil can play well then the O-line will have a great year.

I'm surprised he doesn't wear a headband since he doesn't have eyebrows.

I initially thought it was by choice, as in he shaved them himself, but was quickly corrected as it being a problem some folks have. Guess he just learned to accept it, best thing anyone can do with something like that.

James is essentially Vernon Carey 2.0. Serviceable, but not great RT who was slightly overdrafted, and is moderately overpaid due to timing and supply and demand.

I’m glad he understands he isn’t really in a position to take the contract extension talks to the media.

Hopefully he will take a team friendly deal to stay on for another four years but it wouldn’t be the end of the world if we tried to upgrade the position.

Unfortunately he is already overpaid.
He is a bit overpaid this year, but probably underpaid for the past two. He is above average IMO. If we can keep him with a cap friendly, reasonable contract, great. If not, draft a new one round two.

If you go the draft route though, realize that you have rookie growing pains.

Don't overpay, but don't pinch pennies either. Don't take consistent, above average play for granted.
