CARLSBAD, Calif. — Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross was casually chatting with a small group of a reporters at an upscale resort outside of San Diego that is the team’s home base this week.
The Dolphins have won four consecutive games. The sun was shining bright. And on this Monday afternoon, Ross had a smile on his face that indicated he couldn’t be more pleased with how the season is going.
Ross raved about his first-year head coach Adam Gase.
He spoke about the cohesiveness between Gase and the rest of the football operation, namely executives Mike Tannenbaum and Chris Grier.
It hasn’t always been that way for the Dolphins.
It hasn’t always seemed as hopeful for the organization under Ross’ leadership as it does this moment.
Ross joked about how he’s through making predictions, particularly any involving the Super Bowl.
But Ross spoke seriously about how the culture being set by Gase is the right one.
Gase connects to his players, veterans and rookies alike. Heck, Gase connects on a positive level with the media, offering respect and a sincere interest in anyone he interacts with.
Dolphins football? It’s now about a culture of accountability and responsibility.
And Tannenbaum and Grier are on board. They are lockstep. In unison.
Gase’s opinion on players is weighed heavily by Tannenbaum and Grier, who understand the importance of adding, not deleting, players Gase and his staff want in South Florida. And not adding players Gase and his staff want no part of.
There is three-way respect.

Finally we have a coach who will tell Tannenbum that you can not have that player, he does not fit with the program. The guy is such an idiot.

If Gase could harness Tannenbaums horse trading sense as a force for good rather than evil, it could be a great thing for us...

Remember, he raved about Philbin and said Joe was the next Don Shula.

So? Sometimes people learn from their mistakes, is he not supposed to be happy about Gase? He has clearly changed the culture of the team.

Yeah... but he has to be happy about any and every coach he brings in until it comes time to not be happy.

I think at the very least 80% of fans are happy with Gase. As fans, we have to be, no?

Even if you already knew Philbin is "who we thought they were", even if you're the most spiteful of a fan, you had to have been sleeping in a home with whispering corners begging, "please... pleeeeeease let him be the next Don Shula. If you weren't then you're just a prick and not a fan at all.

I detested, DETESTED the Jordan trade-up the instant it was called. I broke my controller AND phone in a span of nanoseconds. But many fans were infatuated. I was in the shadows watching, waiting to tell them, "told yah so." But, not for one second, was I not equally praying please let me be uproariously wrong.

Getting back to the point, its a nice sentiment but what else is any owner supposed to say right now? "oh... well... geez... its too early to be excited... I just don't know yet." You can't enjoy these fruits from the mouth of the farmers.

Still, its a positive story out there because we have earned the right for such positivity and that is the most important thing. It may be h o m e r "coach speak" but its been earned.

"Stephen Ross all smiles"

That picture sure doesn't look like a smile to me!

Something that really stood out to me immediately after hiring Gase was Ross stating that he stuck to his instincts with this hire. This infers that the previous hires he was talked out of the coach he wanted. Good for you Mr Ross.

can't buy that. from all indications, philbin was Ross's hand picked guy. I think Ireland wanted Mike Mccoy.

Looks like he got this one right, which is huge for the Miami Dolphins. Everything begins with the coaching staff and Gase looks to be finding his way after a slow start.

I love that the team is being physical and I fully expect Miami to continue to add physical players in the draft and through free agency. Will be tough to make the playoffs this season looking at three teams in the AFC West sitting at 7-2, but the way the team is now playing bodes well for the remainder of this season and the future.

Denver's actually 7-3 heading into their bye. That loss is a huge difference right now. If we were to beat the Rams this week, we'd only be one game behind them for the last wild card spot with a lot of football left to be played.

This! I've been saying this for a while now. Everyone wants to blame the bad on Tannenbaum and praise Gase for the good stuff when they both are working together along with Grier.
