The overall grade of the personnel department since March of 2008 has to be considered a B-minus as of today. That department took a 1-15 team and cleaned a very dirty house. I believe the accurate percentage of player turnover has been in the 75 percent range as only 16 players that were on the team before the current regime arrived are still on the team. That figure includes players on injured reserve.

The grade can and will change as this season's final month unfolds, but the point is the personnel department has done relatively well.

But great? Wonderful? Amazing?

Not really.

You sound like a pretty tough marker, I'd give them at least a B+.
(1) A high percentage of the draft picks are looking good.
(2) The big decision was picking Jake Long and he among the best OT in the game. (3) Picking up an undrafted player like Bess was brilliant.
(4) Nate Jones and Lou Polite came at little cost and are excellent contributors.
(5) Giving up a 4th round pick for Fasano and Akin Ayodele was pure burglary.
(6) Pennington was a major success last year and has proven an excellent role model for Henne.
(7) The decision to keep Ricky Williams last year is looking better by the day.
(8) Jake Groves is a clear upgrade on Satelle.
(9) Getting a 2nd round pick for Jason Taylor then recruiting him back at a lower salary was a good move too.
The biggest failures have been Ernest Wilford (identified and addressed), Gibril Wilson (disappointed and too expensive) and not recruiting a clear #1 WR (free agency or draft).

Agree, other than what you mentioned regarding Wilford, Wilson and not being more agressive in getting a #1 Wr, I think they have done an outstanding job. Every team is going to miss on players.

You forgot Green as a failure, also resigning Crowder was a mistake...

Honestly it is hard not to like what they have done in the draft with so MANY players getting significant minutes from the last two classes and the fact we are the youngest team in the league AND competitive... BUT..

I do think as far as free agency or trades they have dropped the ball a little... Starks is the only player I can say with certainty that he has absolutely taken his game to the next level since arriving...

But the others? Grove, Smiley, Wilson, Fasano, McD, Torbor, Ayodele... have been not much more than marginal upgrades when healthy... (ok Grove has been better than that but I stress the 'when healthy')

We are in dire need of IMPACT players... They have assembled a nice core of youth at the critical spots... QB,CB and LT... But in the salary cap world you can't keep them forever... We need players in their prime TODAY to take the next step and yes at WR first and foremost...

You forgot Green.

True, but they are not afraid to admit a mistake. By cutting him (and Wilford) they admit they were wrong. At least we get rid of mistakes rather than keep a player that is a liability to us.

Ted Ginn

First of all the trifecta did not draft him. He is not their mistake. Secondly, I honestly feel the Trifecta and just about every Dolphin fan expected Ginn to improve this year. Last, due to cap issues we could not cut him this year (see 2nd point, nobody would have cut him at the beginning of the year anyway thinking he would improve). Now next year is a different story especially with no CBA. If there is no cap, we will see alot of teams get rid of players and not have any cap issues because of it.

Can't get all the players you need in less than 2 years. Look at what has been brought in already and all the garbage sent out. They are on the right track...why are we worried about how much talent we currently have? Its gonna get better with another offseason/draft.

So far I would grade them very average. The players they have picked up are in most cases better than what was here, but the Fins need players that are better than what most other teams have. How many of this management teams pickups would replace someone now starting on the Saints, Vikes,Colts etc ?
