I am back in Baltimore, Maryland due to a work emergency so I have a new idea which I think will be pretty fun. I have created a MiamI Dolphins Power Rankings which will rank the top 25 players ont the team in order of value based on performance, leadership, impact plays, and solid practice. I will change this on a weekly basis every Monday morning until they end of the football season. Here are my initial rankings

1. Chad Pennington: Pennington brought stability to the Quarterback position for the first time in the post-Marino era of the franchise. He was 2nd in MVP voting and was the 2008 NFL Comeback Player of the Year.

2. Joey Porter: The leader of this franchise had a career year with 17.5 sacks which led him to Pro-Bowl honors. Porter was a serious candidate for NFL Defensive Player of the Year

3. Ronnie Brown: The main component of the wild-cat scored 10 touchdown's last season and made his first trip to Hawaii. Brown looks to be in great shape thus far in camp and I am expecting big things.

4. Jake Long: The #1 pick in the 2008 NFL Draft earned Pro-Bowl honors in his rookie season which is very impressive. Jake Long looks to have an even better sophmore season.

5. Anthony Fasano: A little high here? I don't think so. Fasano scored 7 touchdowns in 2008 and is developing into a top tier tight end in the game.

6. Will Allen: This guy was a pro-bowl snub in my opinion. He was great in coeverage and made some big plays that included a pick six against Jay Cutler and the Broncos.

7. Ricky Williams: Love him or hate him he was very productive in 2008 and came to camp in great shape again this year. His production might fall a little in 2009 but name me a better BACKUP Running Back.

8. Justin Smiley: When we played Baltimore in the playoffs it was obvious how much we missed this guy. He was playing at a very high level before his injury.

9. Jason Ferguson: This guy is an absolute warrior and a big time component to our turn around. We need him in the middle and we need him healthy.

10. Akin Ayodele: This guy wasn't suppossed to be a playmaker but did record two interceptions in 2008. He was very solid for us in the middle.

11. Channing Crowder: Crowder is poised for a breakout year in 2009 and seems to be healthy for the first time in awhile.

12. Vernon Carey: I am glad we resigned this guy who will combine with Jake Long to form one of the best Tackle tandems in the league.

13. Dan Carpenter: This guy was simply money all year.

14. Tedd Ginn Jr.: This guy is developing into a playmaker BIG TIME! In Weeks 16 against the Chiefs and Weeks 17 against the Jets Ginn showed why Cam Cameron and company were so high on him. He has worked hard this off-season to improve his route running and should be much improved in 2009.

15. Yeremiah Bell: Didn't make as many plays in 2008 as I would have liked but it was good to see him back from his ACL injury.

16. Davone Bess: Undrafted? How? This guy is Wes Welker 2.0 in the slow. He is also valuable as a kick returner.

17. Greg Camarillo: Less than 8 months removed from an ACL surgey Camarillo is out there running around with the first team. Work out warrior. Someone tell greg to leave the gym it's 3 am.

18. Jake Grove: This guy was brought in at a steap price to own the opposing defensive tackles. I like what I see thus far.

19. Patrick Turner: Our most impressive rookie through camp thus far. Great size, great routes, great hands.

20. Shawn Murphy: This guy went from inactive to starter. Hard-Work pays off.

21. Cameron Wake-Getting serious pressure but must learn how to finish

22. Sean Smith-He is going to be special

23. Vontae Davis: Keep working youg man; recorded his first INT yesterday in practice

24. Chad Henne: Showing glipse of why he is the Quarterback of our future.

25. Pat White: Needs to show more consistency but is the ultimate play maker

Just Missed
*Phillip Merling
*Kendall Langford

Who Fell?
*Matt Roth-Injured or not to be injured that is the question.
*Donald Thomas: Got to stay healthy or your potential doesn't matter
*Gibril Wilson: Not having a stellar camp thus far
*Eric Green: Just a matter of time before one of those rookies take your job
*Jason Allen-Officially on notice in Miami

Good read, but I'm still trying to figure out, why is Jason Taylor not in the top 25? :err:

Yeah, JT should be around number 5 or 6. But what a phenomenal idea. I look forward to reading these each week

I like most of the rankings. The Vernon Carey ranking should be WAY higher, over Fasano, Ayodele for sure, and honestly i think ricky will have a limited role, giving cobbs more carries so he should be out of top 10.
Put Carey up there higher, thats the only real complaint.

The Correct top 6 however, Fasano being subbed with Carey.

Give Sean Smith and Grove a little time and they might crack that top 10.

The JT of old would be #1 but he has a lot to prove. He can eventually make the list but right now he is just going through the motion.

Carey had a good season last year but did struggle at times. Fasano was huge for us especiall in Week 16 against the Chiefs

I agree Carrey should be a tad higher.
Akin should be much lower, he disapeared many times last season.
Bell should be much mich higher, atleast over carrey and akin.
Will Allen should not be top 10, hes playing top 10 right now in practice though, but using last years performance he was not top 10 maybe around 17 or 18. Until he shows it to me in games hes not top 10.

I am sure by the start of the season this list will change. I am taking the 3 practices into account. Will Allen is high either way but his Asomughaness during Mini-Camp helps his case

Chubby,

Will Allen was lights out last season. He made far more plays than Yeremiah Bell.

Sorry bud, I have yet to have anyone prove this to me. He did make a couple of plays here and there, but he did not do much otherwise. Goodman outplayed him completely the final half of the year.

Bell on the other hand was lights out for us, didnt he lead our team in tackles?

Either way I look forward to seeing this list evolve over the year.
Chubbs

I agree that Y. Bell should be much higher. I thought he was our D's 2nd best player - and most consistent.

Overall, good list and fun idea.

I'll be interested to see what it looks like around week 8.

Also, for all the C and C+ rating our draft received, How many good teams have four draft picks at or around their top 25 players? I think people grossly underrated our draft. Also, you have C. Wake - the infamous extra 3rd - and Grove (will be top 10 if healthy) and Wilson (who I think will be top 15 soon enough).

Fun idea.

Ricky is way too high (love him or hate him). As is Henne. Every starter is more valuable than Henne.

Langford and Merling BOTH deserve to be in the top 20, at the very least.
