The Miami Dolphins haven’t really been the “it” team in the AFC or for that matter the AFC East since Dan Marino was the quarterback. One position is the reason why.

When we talk about the Miami Dolphins we no longer talk Super Bowl. We talk about .500 over and under. We talk about coaching changes and depth concerns. Play calling and blocking as well as in-game adjustments and of course the quarterback.
The long history of starting quarterbacks is nothing new but guess what? Quarterback is not the position that has caused these problems. I will say it again, quarterback is not the problem. The problem is far deeper and one you all know very well.
All of Miami’s problems for almost two decades can be traced back to the decisions made by the teams owners with who they put in charge to run the team. In other words, the general managers and the “VP’s of Football Operations”.

I look at all the non-player failures with the Dolphins (Jimmy Johnson, Saban, Parcells, Tannenbaum, Philbin, the list goes on and on) and wonder if Ross will ever figure it out and get the right people in the right positions. When he focused on celebrity owners a few years ago, I knew that he was not "in it to win it". I keep hoping that he will finally figure it out and put together the right front office to improve the product on the field. But I am still not convinced they have the right formula yet and hope beyond hope that they do something significant this next off season to move the team forward instead of being stuck in quicksand for yet another season.

I place the blame on Ross, who just doesn’t seem to know the game well enough to hire the right people on his own. Unfortunately, that leaves him at the mercy of taking advice from others who seem to have convinced him that failures elsewhere will somehow get it right here. Hasn’t worked yet.

I agree 100%.

That’s one of the things that have made the constant Tannehill bashing threads almost unbearable.

The only thing most fans seem to understand is an elite qb will cover all your holes. Well I feel differently. Teams have become champions without elite QBs but there has never been one that won a championship without someone at the top making good football decisions.

We have not had that for a while.

Que the next “original” bashing Tannehill thread by a obsessed fan.

Exhibit A -L Jackson last night 12-22 and 200 yards and the Ravens beat one of the supposed hottest Qbs at home and held them to 10 points.

Amazing.

I am curious on how teams adjust to him next season. The offense they installed for him is very similar to what Washington did for RG3. This is a league of adjustments and year 2 will be very big for him.

There is some truth to this but this year Cleveland Browns show you it doesn't matter how many 1st rounders you put on the field if the QB is just a guy you going to have just a team.

Prime example Cousins has not done crap and 84 million and another coordinator will not fix him. We ran into them coming off the same high Dan Campbell gave us when he was interim HC.

Albert, that is the perfect example of what is everything wrong with the Miami Dolphins. The Ravens won and are winning with an old school formula. Smash Mouth Football. That defense smothered the Chargers and they jammed the football down their throats. I give credit to Baltimore for creating an offense that incorporates the running skills of Jackson to form a lethal running attack. They pick their spots to pass. This is what I've been hoping for in Miami.

And how many were thinking Harbaugh was out the door?

In reference to Jackson- I think he ends up with a bad injury at some point - just seems really hard to avoid when your that type of QB, its exciting to watch when things are all going well though

Hey, I'll be the first to say that we have had sucky QB's since Marino … it's just the truth. But Tannehill isn't the problem, aside from his injuries. The problem has been the OL during Tannehill's time here. Say what you want, but our problems in the run game have been pretty directly because of the OL not opening holes … for decades. The problems in the passing game have predominantly been because our OL cannot give the QB time to throw downfield so every defense can just concentrate on DL pressure and DB's jumping all the short routes. Without an OL that can pass protect decently, even a short passing game is going to fail.

Nobody wants to see an epic QB in Miami more than me. But, no QB is going to do well here until we have an OL that is at least mediocre. When healthy, our OL's tend to be good enough. But we're never healthy. Whether it's Pouncey, Albert, Sitton, Kilgore, James, Smiley, Long, yadda … yadda ……… yadda, every OL we seem to get breaks down, and we end up playing guys off the street, and the OL goes to hell. Our scouts only prioritize lateral quickness and length, so almost never does a draftee have enough power and technique to excel, yet we don't seem to change. Until we figure out what makes a good OL, and start building a decent OL, the QB is going to be so handicapped as to make spending the resources to get an elite QB a massive waste of resources. Tannehill has proven productive when he has time to throw. The problem is keeping people healthy and giving him time to throw. Let's solve those particular problems, or no other solutions are going to work either.

I agree at some point they'll be an injury. But in the meantime ride the horse to victory. It's the OC who deserves credit for incorporating him into the running attack. He tailored the offense. Something missing in Miami

Jimmy Johnson didn't fail. He just didn't win superbowl

Yep. Look at Indy this year with Andrew Luck. They concentrated on fixing the offensive line and that vastly improved unit has helped Luck's resurgence. It's strange that we've seen that as fans, but the front office keeps hoping to find bargain basement solutions. I know Josh Sitton wasn't bargain basement and that was an unfortunate injury, but he's still a stopgap solution to a long-term problem.
