Why should you be more confident about the Dolphins than you were a year ago today?

THEN: On this date, linebacker Joey Porter, coming off a down year, was placed on the non-football injury list for his ankle.

NOW: Porter is fresh off a 17.5 sack season, the most of his career and five more than he had in the previous two seasons.

THEN: Jason Taylor, six days after a trade, was preparing for his first training camp as a Washington Redskin.

NOW: Taylor is preparing for another training camp as a Dolphin, healthy and motivated.

THEN: Josh McCown and John Beck were preparing to compete for the starting quarterback job. Chad Pennington? Still a Jet.

NOW: Both are gone, and the job is in Pennington's capable hands, with Chad Henne pushing hard.

THEN: Patrick Cobbs, Greg Camarillo and Davone Bess looked like roster roadkill.

NOW: All three have proven their worth in big spots, with Cobbs and Camarillo earning extensions.

I guess I only really have an issue with this. I think for the most part we knew Cobbs to be a very capable back-up.

Rillo we knew to be dependable with excellent hands and route running skills and as for Bess ... while we had no idea how he'd pan out, most of us who saw his play in Hawaii felt strongly the kid was a gamer.
