The Miami Dolphins are sixth in the NFL thus far with 10 new players in free agency. First-year general manager Dennis Hickey continues to make over the roster following last year’s disappointing 8-8 season.

[h=4]Salary cap room remaining[/h]
1. Browns$30,852,082.00
2. Jets$26,220,532.00
3. Jaguars$25,107,264.00
4. Bengals$23,999,916.00
5. Eagles$20,288,629.00
6. Titans$19,424,452.00
7. Dolphins$16,465,752.00
-- According to the NFLPA

The Dolphins still have flexibility to make a move in free agency. Miami is currently $16.46 million under the salary cap, according to NFLPA records. The Dolphins have 62 players under contract.

Only six teams have more cap space than Miami. The Cleveland Browns ($30.8 million) and New York Jets ($26.2 million) lead the way in salary-cap room. The Dolphins are second in the AFC East with money left available to spend.

What does this mean for Miami? Don’t expect the team to go on another spending spree. The Dolphins made their choice to spend big on players this offseason such as left tackle Branden Albert ($47 million) and defensive tackle Earl Mitchell ($18 million). The remainder of free agency will be spent bargain hunting.

I guess I should have put this in Salary Cap forum. You can move it if appropriate.

WTF are the Browns planning with $30 in the pocket?

Guess roll it over for next year FA period? Can't think of any big name players in contract year apart from Mack.

Depending on how things shake out in the draft, Hickey does have the money to add a couple of vets or, maybe make a trade after the draft. There is always a surprise or two in who becomes available.

I would have preferred having another starter signed with some f that money but, ya roll with the punches.

Mack will take out a chunk, and ya roll over the rest to see what you need next year.

It seems like Cleveland always has 100 million in cap room every year. They also always seem to have 2 1st round picks and are in need of a QB.

Although a few have worked, I've grown tired of one year deals, and the consistent turnover of our roster and coaches. To succeed in the NFL, you need some stability, and some draft picks to work out. Cap space is good t have but, I would much rather starters who have been here for a few years or more.

Here we go again, with new starters at CB, S, maybe LB, DT, RB, and 4 on the OL Last year, it was CB, 2 LB's, DE, LT, RT, TE, WR, and RB.. Really hard to win that way.

Not far down the track they have to pay players like Joe Haden, Josh Gordon.. Interesting to see a number of teams showing some fiscal conservatism in preparation for future big expenditure.

Signing our draft picks, a couple mid summer/training camp veterans should still put us in the $10 million range.

As NJPHINFAN79 said, we can also start working on long term deals for Pouncey and Odrick. Whatever is left, just roll it over to next year. After the 2014 season is when Tannehill and the Dolphins can begin negotiations on a long term contract, though I would think Miami will pick up his 5th year option and wait until 2016 to start looking at that big deal.

We ready need to have a solid draft this year and get some starters playing for three years on smaller rookie contracts rather than high price free agents mostly on short deals.
That seems to be the secret of cap management. Easier said than done.
