Coach Tony Sparano said Friday that rookie Pat White will play no other position except quarterback as the offseason program continues over the next two months. Sparano also said he has spent time considering NFL rules about use of quarterbacks on game days.

• First-round draft pick Vontae Davis said his interception of a White pass Friday ''gave me a good feeling I can play out here with anyone.'' Davis said he ''got in trouble'' with Sparano for knocking an offensive player to the ground during an offense vs. defense drill.

• Sparano, on Smith: ``The thing that jumps out at you is his physical size and how that matches up with some of the receivers he's going to have to play in our division. But more importantly, the guy moves his feet tremendously well for a big guy.''

It also said on rotoworld that White will be the #2 QB on the depth chart so he can run the wildcat. Because if he was at the #3 spot on the depth chart, once he came in, neither Pennington or Henne would be able to come back in the game.

What exactly is meant/implied by this sentence?

It means what i said above you.

White will have to be the #2 qb on the depth charts so he can run the wild cat. Once the #3 qb on the depth chart enters the game, the other two cannot re-enter.

If Pennington gets hurt, we will still see Henne come into the game even tho White is "ahead" of him on the Depth Chart.

i think whats gonna happen is this...

this year...penny will be #1 and p white #2...so white can play wildpat whenever...and henne of course #3 emergency
next year...henne will be #1 and p white #2 to be in the wildpat...and we'll find some new QB to be #3

if anything happens to penny this year...henne will step in as #1

Concur. You will probably see Henne assuming Beck's vacated position of bench warming specialist, but, I think he'll be the lead QB and activated if Pennington gets hurt.

Most likely. But even despite what Sparano said about Pennington being his starter, I think this regime almost hopes that Henne gives them good reason this year to put him at starter rather than Pennington.

Tim Graham who does the ESPN AFC East blog usually has a pretty good finger on the pulse of what Miami does, and his most recent entries implied this sentiment somewhat (i.e. still calling Henne the "quarterback of the future".)

This fits right in with what I've thought about Davis. Physical, aggressive, and undisciplined. The good thing it tells me is he's motivated. He knows he's going to play, I think. He strikes me as a very prideful person, which is not a bad thing as long as it's applied correctly. I have to say I'm really, really happy with this pick.

"wildpat" Ohh Yea!!!!

I just read tony's press conf and thought that was awsome. Guys you can slice it anyway you want but he has a nose for the endzone and thats what wins games!

I got absolutely nailed to a cross for suggesting this last year. It was after the playoff loss presser, and, I just sort of looked at that whole thing like...:err:

Really? Pennington is like the starter with no possibility of the guy the trifecta just drafted being considered to be in the mix for a ligit start at the starting job? Doubt it.....Oh, how the knives came out. That's ok. I'm used to being in the minority.

This is all great news!

I believe the only position Pat White should play is QB. I'm all for an open competition between Henne and White!

Let the best QB win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:hi5:

The Phins should use him the way the Steelers used Antwaan Randle-El. Randle-El was listed as a WR. He also was the Steelers 3rd (emergency) QB. Officially, the Steelers only carried 2 QB's on their roster. That way, Randle-El could line up at WR on every play but they could still use him on trick plays, etc where he would throw the ball. They could also line him up under center or send him onto the field as the QB (technically taking the field without a QB).

Henne wins hands down. I live in western PA and hate the Steelers. I watched them use Kordell Stewart at QB from late 1996 to 2002. He had some decent seasons and made a couple Pro Bowls. He was also terrible during most of that stretch. If they had kept him as "Slash", he would have been fine. A full-time QB in the NFL he was not. In White, we have an offensive weapon. Not an NFL QB.

Probably just the knee-jerk reaction if it was right after the playoff presser. Consider me in the minority with you now; I know I wasn't there in January, but am now.

The more I've thought about this topic, if Pennington was really guaranteed anything in terms of a starting position, I'd at least think there'd be some form of negotiations for an extension or something in the works for him.

But, as we remember, Sparano said that Henne would get a majority of the work this preseason, it'd be naive to think that Sparano and the coaching staff wouldn't give him every chance to prove he can be the starting QB.

The sooner Henne is starter-ready, the better off the Dolphins are going to be in both the short and long-term. Henne starting with White as a slash player going into Atlanta week 1 might be a stretch, but I'd be willing to bet that combination is implemented at some point in 2009 - soon rather than later I'd expect.

I admit I wasn't thrilled when we drafted White, but it wasn't because I didn't think he had talent. It was because I felt we had other pressing needs and we already have Pennington and Henne.

However, every single thing I've heard about Pat White has been extremely positive, especially his character and his QB skills. I for one believe Pat White may have more than enough talent to possibly win the starting QB job. If he does, good for him!

I believe Pat White has far more talent as a QB than he does as a WR.
