Matt Moore, undrafted in 2007 and fighting his way upstream ever since, falls short of hitting Philbin's stated standard on a regular basis.

Ryan Tannehill, the first-round draft pick with the 12-7 college record, falls shorter.

As summer steams into town, the Dolphins can't possibly trust their offense to the halting implementation of a rookie, and yet that is what the loudest fans will want. I found myself daydreaming about it, too, just a little, when Moore threw a couple of interceptions the other day during a routine practice session in helmets and shorts.

It's lunacy, this urge to kick Miami's 2011 team MVP to the curb at the slightest provocation, and it must be resisted, for everyone's sake, through both the summer and the fall.

I read that yesterday and just shook my head. The title should not have been the Miami Dolphins should resist the urge to turn to Ryan Tannehill too soon but the media AND FANS should resist the urge to turn to Ryan Tannehill too soon.

"That will be tough," Moore said of fans howling for Tannehill to get his chance sooner rather than later. "It's something I'm going to have to get used to.

Matt Moore sucks. If Tannehill doesn't beat him out I'd be disappointed in Tannehill. Garrad on the other hand is an actual NFL qb.

Instant gratification. Is the why some fans are calling for Tannehill to start. These fans are mistaken and just plain wrong. Saying Matt Moore sucks is sure indication of a Jet fan in our midst. Not a Dolphin fan. There are many trolls on this site and most of them reside in NJ. Where the pigs live.

Another shake my head statement.

Meh, we saw what moore can do, and we have an idea what his ceiling is, we don't know what tannehill can do and he is the shiney new toy. Personally i've said Tannehill needs the bench more than the field needs him this year.

Garbage article.....if he is ready, like Andy Dalton and Like Cam Newton....you start him....period.

How did Ryan Tannehill fall shorter than Matt Moore last year.......Tannehill's QB rating was 133...Moores 87. Tannehill's team had a winning record...Moore's did not.

I hate articles like this...whether he starts or not this year will be based on what happens in camp and in pre-season to some degree...not some pre-conceived notion that starting a rookie is a "halting implementation" of your offense. Tell the Bengals and Panthers that.

Can we stop babying Ryan Tannehill already?

All I hear is...

He can't start, it'll ruin his development

If he sits, his self esteem may falter

Hard knocks is bad, will expose Tannehill's weaknesses

Lauren is having a little fun, may overshadow Ryan

And the list just goes on and on and on. Bottom line is when the dust and smoke is settled and training camp is all said and done, Coach Philbin will make the right call.

Exactly. If he's the best QB in camp then he should play. He's not a child, he's a (supposedly) well prepared top 10 NFL draft pick. Give the kid a shot, if he shows promise then stick with him, if he falls flat on his face then we get a pretty sweet consolation prize in Matt Barkley... Who happens to be 6x the prosepct of Tannehill... Just sayin.

.

First off, Tannehill is NOT A Dalton or C Newton. Not enough close. Second, are you really comparing what a college QB in the Big 10 did compared to a QB in the NFL? If so, then I guess Tannehill is also better then Aaron Rodgers since Rodger's rating was only 122.

So your idea is to play Tannehill and if he does not play well enough in his rookie season spend another 1st rounder on Barkley?

While that is a interesting idea of how to run a NFL team, I'll pass.

Tannehill is very inexperienced for a college QB -- fewer than 20 starts IIRC. He needs time to learn, so he should sit most of his first season if not all of it. IMO, the Fins need to invest in a good QB coach (if they haven't already) who can work with both Moore and Tannehill, working on their mechanics and other fundamentals as well as film study.

Anybody who really thinks a rookie QB can be better than a decent veteran QB is really ignorant IMO. If Tannehill starts early in the season, it won't really be because he's "better" than Moore but simply because the Fins want him to start.

If Tannehill starts early in the season, it SHOULD be solely because he is the better QB during camp/preseason, OR the selected starting QB has big issues coming out of the gate. Either situation dictates letting Tannehill play. If Tanny's psyche and development is truly going to be dismembered by him playing poorly his rookie season, then he isn't that strong of a prospect anyway. Manning turned out just fine, and it looks like Newton and Dalton will too....

You play whoever gives you the best chance to win or else you lose the locker room. The players aren't dumb. They see these guys in practice and know who is better. And if you are one of those guys and know the coaching staff isn't playing the best player then you would be pissed. Its that simple. The players fought back from 0-7 b/c they believed in Moore and knew he gave them the best chance to win.

simple answer to title with no discussion needed. YEP
