As a dolphin fan i often wish I had a time machine, and a means by which to change our history by one "inch" and see how things would of turned out differently... So I'm asking you, the fans, if you could could change one thing (one play or one decision) in Dolphin's history what would it be?

ONE PLAY:

Stoyanovich field goal against the San Diego Chargers:

The Chargers overcame a 21-6 halftime deficit by limiting the Dolphins offense to only 16 plays in the second half. Miami quarterback Dan Marino threw 3 touchdowns in the first half: two to tight end Keith Jackson for 8 and 9 yards, and a 16-yarder to wide receiver Mike Williams. San Diego could only counter with two field goals by kicker John Carney. But in the third quarter, Chargers defensive lineman Reuben Davis tackled Dolphins running back Bernie Parmalee in the end zone for a safety. San Diego then took the ensuing free kick and marched 54 yards to score on running back Natrone Means' 24-yard touchdown. The Chargers later took the lead, 22-21, with 35 seconds left with quarterback Stan Humphries's 8-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Mark Seay. Miami kicker Pete Stoyanovich then attempted the game-winning 48-yard field goal on the final play of the game, but his kick was wide. If the Dolphins win that game Marino could of had his re-match against the 49ers at Joe Robbie what a game that would of been.

ONE DECISION: Drafting Ted Ginn over Brady Quinn

that still hurts! even though Ted Ginn and Quinn both remain completely untested, i would feel so much better going into camp with Quinn as our projected started than the mess we have now...

just let me know. i might be able to help.

agreed on the passing of quinn. no clue what cam the bearded clam was thinking.

Tell Kim Bokamper to catch that Joe Theisman pass in Super Bowl 17, i'm sure he tried very hard to get it, but i'd tell him the exact location of where Joe was and how the play unfolds and maybe he'd be able to execute the play to perfection and seal that game. Our third Super Bowl. We'd still get Marino the next year too.

I think there would have been a really good chance you beat Pitt the following week had you beaten SD BUT you would have gotten mauled in the SB by SF.

We don't know what Quinn or Ginn are going to turn out to be yet so it's a little early to discuss those 2.

I would have given Don Shula the Super Bowl XIX game tape the week prior to the game.

2002: Cris Carter CATCHES the game winning TD vs the Vikings to propel Miami into the playoffs. the following game at NE(another choke, blown double digit 4th quarter lead) would have been irrelevant.

Just before the playoffs started, some Raiders were quoted as being happy to see the Dolphins miss the playoffs.

The eventual SB Champion Buccaneer defense was considered to have one weakness, run defense. We just happened to have the league's top rusher that year.

Decision-wise: Wow, take your pick. The 3 most brutal:
Jamar Fletcher ahead of Drew Brees
Eddie Moore ahead of Anquan Boldin
Culpepper over Brees

While your back there changing Dolphins history can you change my lotto numbers?

I dont think that Phins team beats San Francisco either, but it's a hell of a lot closer than whatever the score of that game was. Especially with us having Marino over the Chargers having Stan Humphries, we might not have been as out of it as they were in by the end of the second quarter. San Diego should not have even been in that Super Bowl, they were lucky to beat both Miami and Pittsburgh as O'Donnell threw that game away against the Chargers too.

Obviously the Chargers were as good as Miami that year and they were blwon out, I don't tjhink one player would have made the game closer. it diodn't 10 years earlier when Marino was even better and had better talent around him(SF was better in '84 too).

Probably not. We may never see another secondary like their '84 team. But the '82 Redskins game was winnable and we didn't get it done.

I agree, the '82 game was very winnable.

I like your thinking, go back get rich then you can buy your favorite team and make them better since you will know why they lost those games.:D

I think the 84 Dolphins were good enough to beat the 84 49ers, as did most people at the time.

I know, I was one of them. In hindsight, we had no inside running game after losing Andra Franklin. We had two pro bowl WRs, they had four pro bowlers in their secondary. Our defense collapsed in late season losses to the Raiders and Chargers. As Randy Cross said when they were viewing film of the Dolphins' defense... 'That's a Super Bowl Defense???" Of course it wasn't, and the 49ers exploited it practically uncontested. But I was a kid and thought we were invincible. You live and learn.

I dont think that Charger team was as good as that Dolphin team though, even though the Dolphins lost the game, the better team does not always win. San Diego did a terrific job of keeping the Dolphins off the field in the second half, largely in part to Natrone Means who was an absolute star that year. You could always beat the Dolphins under Marino if you could keep him off the field, and San Diego did just that.

The 84 team was just so dominant and cruised through the season so easily that it made the Super Bowl seem like a lock to win, with many more to come. It turned out that the Dolphins couldn't execute that game, Joe Montana played a terrific game and so did Roger Craig. But the matchup on paper still favored the Dolphins. Thats why games are played on the field not on paper because Miami got dominated that game.
