The Miami Dolphins may have lost a multitude of players this offseason, but only Jared Odrick, Mike Wallace and Charles Clay had the potential to be difference-makers. These three players were replaced by Ndamukong Suh, Kenny Stills and Jordan Cameron.
The Dolphins basically rid themselves of "a lot of 8-8," as I like to call it, and have actually improved their roster. As is, the Miami Dolphins are a better team than in 2014, mainly because of Suh. With free agency still open and the 2015 NFL draft on the horizon, Miami can truly bolster their roster.
Unless Tannenbaum and Hickey completely whiff, the Miami Dolphins will be a playoff team in 2015.

I completely agree with this writer, it will be extremely hard for the Dolphins to at least not make the playoffs.
The most glaring needs are:
1- linebackers simply because they lost 4 (Dannell Ellerbe, Philip Wheeler, Jonathan Freeney, JasonTrusnick) and haven't replaced one.

2- Guards because they lost 3 (Shelley Smith, Daryn Colledge, Nate Garner) with no additions. At least not yet!
3- Corners, they need starting right corner ASAP. Period.

4- Wide receivers because they lost 3 (Mike Wallace, Brian Hartline, Brandon Gibson) with only one addition (

Kenny Stills). And the big, tall red zone help.

No doubt in my mind two if not all of these big holes will be address through the draft. In addition, Tannenbaum is known to have made ridiculous trades in the past so be ready to be awed on draft day.

Brice McCain?

There's no way all those holes can be filled in the draft.

LD

Wow those four positions got shredded, but addition by subtraction is certainly possible at Wr. Cb too if they draft Waynes.

That guard position is SCREWED though. If they trot Dallas Thomas and Billy Turner out there day one...good lord

Lb with Misi and Jenkins in there is really down to that third spot. There's still time to draft or trade that person.

I have always believed that 2 of the 4 positions mentioned will have to be filled in free agency. I would like to see the team pick up a veteran CB and guard when teams start trimming the roster (if not sooner). I get the feeling we will pick a 3 down LB and receiver with our top 2 picks. We may then pick up a guard, RB and another corner for competition and development. We may then also grab a few undrafted players and hope we get lucky. Losing that 3rd really hurts.

Sure hope all these advanced science applications can keep our guys healthy. It's one thing to hope that we fill most of our holes in the draft, but we are really running thin in almost every position; even positions that aren't necessarily need positions. We have health concerns at LT (Albert), TE (Cameron), CB (Taylor & Davis), LB (Misi). What if Landry or Sills gets dinged up? Heck, the only position I feel confident health-wise is QB with Matt Moore backing up.

I don't know how you can say we got better with all the people that left and we only replace a few. Suh is not a team all by himself. And there really is no such thing as "addition by subtraction" until you actually replace them with someone better.

Did we get better for next year? Eh not so sure but in the long run we're much better team. This draft is HUGE and has the ability of making this team better than last years.

Well, while it's never hard to NOT make the playoffs ...

I'm optimistic that we'll get there this year.

Ill make my playoff prediction 2 weeks after the draft. Ill have a better look at our team then. But im extremely optimistic, I have faith in Hickey's drafting.

Btw, has Freeny been signed by someone else? I thought I remembered reading that we wanted to keep him, we could still bring him back relatively cheap if he's still on the open market. Good depth at a weak position.

I believe the Patriots signed him

We are banking on youth right now. We have a lot of young players ready to fill needs. Williams as backup RB, A. Johnson at D. tackle, McCain at linebacker, Aikens at safety, Turner at guard and so on. I love that we are finally churning out talent in house. If it works out we are in the playoffs and ready to do some damage.

As much as I'm not a big fan of Mike Wallace I would have kept him for 1 more year
keeping that 3 round draft pick.

Not a very thorough article on details......

A) We have a couple of young linebackers that weren't really a part of things ready to step up.....Kelvin Sheppard was added last year due to injuries...so its not like we are barren at linebacker....we need a true Mike...thats really it.

B)We have added TJ Walton to the line.....and Billy Turner who didn't play last year is expected to start. We do need a starting guard and some depth.

C) Corners...I have more confidence in Jamar Taylor starting than I do Billy Turner....he has more experience.

And finally...yes...we do need starting receiver and depth.

I am confident this will all be handled in free agency and the draft.
