Jimmy Johnson created a draft pick value chart during his time with the Dallas Cowboys; this chart gives a numerical value to every pick in the draft based on the round and overall draft pick. Since its creation in the 90’s, the chart has changed over the years, but it is still used as a reference tool for teams around the league.

Using this draft chart, we will try to identify the price Miami will have to pay to move up in the draft.

Miami currently holds:

Hopefully we don't use this chart for trading up. Trading back would be ok.

Here are all the first round trades from last year to get a sense of the comps that may be applied this year. Incidentally, there is one trade up and one trade down from draft positions similar to what the Fins have this year. Count me in the camp of those who would rather trade back (assuming Haskins is gone by 13).

BUF traded 12/53/56 for 7/255 (QB drafted)

ARI traded 15/79/152 for 10 (QB)

BUF traded 22/65 for 16/145 (LB)

TEN traded 25/125 for 22/215 (LB)

NO traded 27/147/2019 1st for 14 (DE)

GB traded 27/76/186 for 18/248 (CB)

BAL traded 52/125/2019 2nd for 32/132 (QB)

Will anyone play the "what if" game with me?

Some are in agreement that the QB of choice in this draft is Murray
Some agree that we don't have any logical chance of trading up for him because of the steep price and the needs we have
Most agree we should draft a QB... and many say this years crop doesn't have a "sure bet to be a franchise QB"

so having set the stage (and really just for s**ts and giggles) ...….

What if Murray for whatever the reason falls to #13 and the Patriots want to move up to draft him.... according to the draft chart it looks like they would have to give up:

#32, 56 and 73 (1st, one of their 2nd and a third) ... knowing our QB isn't really in this draft (in this game) and we are picking a mid-round QB anyway.....

Do you make this trade or ANY similar trade?

Thanks for playing

Have to love that the front office has stockpiled picks, which could be used either in this draft or in 2020. If Miami is sold on Haskins, they have the ammo to deal up. If not, and they win more than expected in 2020, they can trade up as well. Should be in a position for one of these in 2020: Tua, Herbert, Love, Fromm.

I guess Colts GM Chris Ballard recently proclaimed there to be only 14 "first-round talents" in this draft and that from 15-60 the talent was relatively equal. Wonder if he would like to trade up into that top 14 to say maybe hmmmmm like pick #13? colts currently sit at #26.

last year, NO traded 27/147/2019 1st for #14. would love for the Fins to either a) do something similar which would net them a first for next year; or b) snag a few of those additional picks that Indy has. seeing as the colts may be really good this year and their first next year might be in the late 20s, I may lean towards additional picks this year. their 2019 war chest:
