More than a week into the free agent signing period (its about over folks) and it has become obvious the team created more holes than they filled because of the Brandon Marshall trade to Chicago, and the release of starting safety and team captain Yeremiah Bell. That’s why Dolphins fans have a right to be ANGRY, disappointed, frustrated.Vent! You deserve it after a decade (minus the 2008 season) of suffering.Once you calm down, you’ll realize improvements to the Dolphins roster were made.David Garrard is an upgrade over Chad Henne, and should push Matt Moore for the starting spot.Lydon Murtha re-signing gives Miami a solid starting option at right tackle. Murtha played left tackle pretty well during last year’s exhibition season, when he filled in for a rehabbing Jake Long. Right tackle is Murtha’s natural position. Unfortunately, Murtha suffering a season-ending foot injury that prevented him from challenging Marc Colombo for the starting right tackle spot last year.Artis Hicks, who was signed to a one-year deal, is a versatile and athletic offensive lineman who can play tackle and guard. It is possible Hicks could beat Nate Garner or John Jerry out for the vacant starting spot at right guard.Re-signing Pro Bowl nose tackle Paul Soliai for half of last season’s price will allow the defense to remain a 3-4 hybrid, and Richard Marshall should at least improve the nickel cornerback spot as Will Allen’s replacement. But it is easy to ignore all those moves when you traded away a Pro Bowl receiver for two third-round picks (Marshall didn’t want to play for these quarterbacks, preferring a reunion with Jay Cutler over rebuilding), and cut the team’s leading tackler for the past four seasons (total salary dump that can be rectified by re-signing Bell at a lower price).http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sport...what-was-accomplished-during-free-agency.html

Philbin has made it very clear to us and his players he fully believes in building his team through the draft so I am willing to give him that chance even though I am disappointed in our FA buzz.

Looks like Marshall and Jones are your starting safeties with the WRs are coming from the draft

Here's what we've done during free agency: We've transitioned the team to a model that stresses drafting players instead of signing overpriced big names. It's a good model, and now we're going to find out if the kid building the kit is as much of a moron as most of us think he is.

Also we upgraded the second most important position on the football team: HEAD COACH

Hey they want to build through the draft? fine, no problem...People saying its Philbins philosophy is fine but Ireland is making the decisions.

I've seen this same pattern of 1/2azz players being brought in to fill other 1/2azz players (year after year), Fine.

But in my mind feel though still building through the draft should not waste FA as much as we do. We can afford (like 90% of the rest of the NFL) to at least pick up one quality non depth but actual annual starter that can be counted on... such as a Winston/other ligit OL starter or say Anderson a dependable pass rusher of need.
Fill one needed position and free up a spot for the Draft maybe a DE or OL or a spot that is weak in the draft......
common sense folks
Not expecting to go hog wild in FA but christ, this year after year of scrubs is ridiculously unsuccessful and predictable, and those few solid players we actually picked up and paid for have filled their respected positions, Dansby, Barnnett, traded B. Marshall..............with consistency and no longer on the upgrade chart.
Instead of discount players unable to hold the position and putting us in having to replace then again the next year which we've been doing with the OL, DB, S for Y-E-A-R-S !!!!!!

Building through the draft is fine but Marshall was only 27, still young enough and in his prime to help this team succeed. Anyway that's done now so nothing can be done about it except draft at least two high quality WR's to replace him. I know we are most likely drafting a QB but I am beginning to rethink the model of how. I have been for picking Tannehill if he is available at 8 and if he's not then trading back to the middle of the first round and possibly picking up another 2nd round pick. If a trade down happens I would like to see us get Fleener in the first and perhaps Cousins in the second or third round.

Looks like we are going to rely on our defense to keep us in games while our offense is rebuilt.

Every move we have made since Manning turned us down points to this.

If they want to rebuild through the Draft that's fine, but they should have been more upfront with the fans about. Stephen Ross may be a billionaire but he doesn't know a goddamn thing about PR.

Only been rebuilding through the draft for half a decade, no hurries.

Well, time to keep busting on second round picks and over drafting offensive lineman. Who else is pumped for April!

True, but I am sure Philbin is telling Ireland the type of players he wants. Ireland is not blindly picking players and telling Philbin he needs to make it work. Philbin and his philosophy plays a big part in the type of players Ireland is targeting in free agency and the draft.

I am OK with building the offense through the draft instead of picking up free agents. Though I personally still don't agree with the Marshall trade, but there was obviously a philosophy difference between Philbin and Marshall. Also the fact that Marshall is facing a multiple game suspension, they might have just tried to get anything they could for him and rid themselves of a head case. With that said, talent wise that is a HUGE hole on the offense.

I would say our running back position is set. There are questions and concerns there, but I don't see anything changing there. Bush, Thomas, Messam and Slaton can be a solid group. Four picks in the top 73 is prime ammunition to begin rebuilding the offense. I have to think either our first round pick(Tannehill) or second round pick(Weeden) will be used on a quarterback. Once we get our quarterback we can use the other three early picks on a WR(maybe two), and a tight end and/or pass rusher.

Maybe not directly but it was mentioned prior to free agency even starting. I have to admit that even I ignored the comments made about building through the draft.

"I was extremely impressed," defensive end Jeff Cross said this morning on my radio show, Armando and Perkins. "I had the opportunity to ask [Philbin] what about the draft stuck out for him, if anything. And he went on to say, I'm trying to summerize, he pointed out that in his entire time in Green Bay on offense, no single free agent wound up ever being a starter for them.

"So they are big advocates of drafting players and developing them. He actually said that good healthy players, the chances of good players being healthy and being allowed to become free agents is very minimal in the National Football League."

Former free safety Louis Oliver was also at the event and got the same message from Philbin.

"He was talking about his vision and his vision is he wants to build players from within, you know, draft and cultivate our own players as opposed to bringing in players from the outside," said Oliver, who immediately recognized the irony because of the Manning chase.

We upgraded both S spots. Yes Richard Marshall will be the FS.

Resigned our key cog in Solai.

Traded,Marshall? So good move IMO. He didn't live up to the hype.

We'll draft WRs to fit the WCO. Marshall didn't.
