Something in the Oregon game was the straw that broke the camel's back.

I don't think anyone here called him a bad human being, but he was a bad teammate. What's listed above is just what I remember and in the public, I'm sure there was more behind the curtain that was kept in house.

It doesn't matter that he didn't commit a crime, he has no right to be a Golden Bear, it's an earned honor. He was given that opportunity at least twice and he chose to give it away.

honestly, i dont care whether he cussed out some band member. i wouldnt recommend it, but its not what bothers me about the guy.(sorry band members) what bothers me is reports from some media guys about his behavior during practice, where i feel like he was being a distraction and thinking it was his daily fun to cuss out of o lineman.

basically try to pick fights with his teammates. guys are trying to learn and get better and the whole point of practice is to compete and make each other better. i think the common excuse to cover for mccain was the team saying, "chris just wants to win" and i just dont buy it. im glad they got rid of him because i think he was a daily distraction to his teammates and his behavior was preventing a lot of his teammates from improving.

Cal football player vs. Oregon trombone player

Since someone reopened this dead thread, maybe the following will shed some additional light on the matter. (If this is a booth I apologize, but I have no interest in going back and reading over 20 pages of comments on this subject)

Check out the comment in this youtube clip from an Oregon band member relating to an incident between a Cal football player and an Oregon trombone member:

I know that comments in youtube clips are not hard evidence of anything, but if this were true then strong disciplinary action was in order and I applaud the coach's decision. This type of behavior can not be tolerated. It reflects poorly on the team, and, by extension, the University.

Only exception for a Cal football player to make physical contact with a trombone player (or any other band member, or non-football player...): if that player is from Stanfurd and on the field when the Cal player is about to make a last second touchdown to win the Big Game .

Looks awfully light in the pants in those cut ups...explosive though has ability to close quick acceleration looks most natural at the Los though as an edge player where he can attack...good length good size very fluid but doesn't look like he's got the weight to do much rushing off the edge other than run around guys active hands though and he knows how to use them...

Looks like a wolb to me in our defense height may play against him at the poa vs the run but he does look like he's got some talent...In a heavy blitz or rush the lbs scheme I think that's his fit...not bad looking dropping in coverage either pretty assignment sound...I don't see though lb instincts really he shows good ball awareness but there's not much presnap read and dx more run to the ball and post snap reactionary but so much of what they asked him to do was play at the Los it's hard to tell...

Athletically and size wise with how fluid he is and he has some nastiness to him and is a willing hitter it seems like a no brainer to me he should make the 53 for specials at least...definitely has more going for him than say a freeny...there's upside here for sure and real physical ability...looks like can carry more weight on that frame although it looks like he's got a thin torso...will need more weight if he plans on putting some of those edge rush tools to use against nfl tackles...224 at the pro day I can believe it...looks more like a underdeveloped des body to me but fluid like a lb...that tapes though mostly a guy that wants to play at the Los...

Will be interesting to see how he looks off it at lb in the preseason...

Well hopefully cal booting him grew his ass up! If not he always has his creed tshirt for direction.

Nice. I hope he works out! We for sure need help covering TE's and RB's coming out of the backfield. Last season was maddening having to watch all the screen plays that burned us over and over. Darren sproles embarrassed us last season, he's a great player but last year we made it all look soooo easy.

His name continues to jump out on the camp reports. He's making plays and catching the coach's eyes. Saw he got some reps with the first team D today.

Just to add...

Philbin said McCain has picked up the LB position better than he thought and grasped some of the techniques and fundamentals pretty well. He described him as slippery and a guy that is hard to get a hold of. They are going to get him some more reps and see how he does in the preseason game. He thinks he is off to a very good start.

I know it's early, but I am gonna keep my eye out for #47 if I can watch our 1st pre-season game.

He needs to transfer his anger onto the field while knowing his assignments. This is his only chance.

I am sure they gave this kid some schooling. So far so good. Easy cut should he lose his mind.

Agree with hoops that he looks like a Will Backer. But i do think he has some instincts for the game. He just doesn't trust his instincts and react quickly enough. But i see him reading the game. Needs to be a bit more decisive, which is something our D coaches can help with.

He's interesting, for sure.
