Miami Dolphins: Why the hate for Brian Hartline?

i dont get it ether. he hasnt really been used right imo. he isnt a deep threat. he is a short to intermidiate route wr, who is a good route runner, and can make some plays not to metion the consistant hand. i like him and i think he will be very good in the wco

Wes Welker doesn't get a lot of respect because he's white. Oh, wait..we hear about him all the time. Maybe it's because Hartline isn't that great..

It is not the WR here, it is the QB. When your QB is a All Pro and the MVP of the NFL, as a WR you will get more and "better" catches.

When your QB tends to be rated as the 25th or so QB in the NFL..let's say someone like Chad Henne for instance, your chances to shine are simply not going to come.

He does realize he's talking about the same fans that still to this day throw fits about Welker leaving, right? Omar is an idiot. Perhaps it has more to do with his 2.9 YAC and lack of TDs that leads many of us to believe he's good (particularly at running routes) but not great. I fail to see how considering somebody above average to good, which I believe is the range that the majority of us fall into, qualifies as "hate."

That's true to some extent, but good WRs are still good even with subpar QB play. Cases in point: Fitzgerald, Calvin Johnson (prior to Stafford), Roddy White (if you are one of the few that incorrectly believes Matt Ryan sucks), Harvin, Bowe, Marshall, Brandon Lloyd, Santana Moss, etc. All performed well despite average to bad QB play.

We'll learn a lot about Hartline this year as Marshall is no longer going to be getting the majority of the targets.

You mean the same Wes Welker that with 32 games as a WR in Miami. Had 96 catches, for 1121 yards with 1 TD.

I think you missed the point of my post in that race isn't the issue, even if this "hate" actually exists, which it doesn't.

Jesus Christ, for the love of God, thank you.

My post wasn't about the race factor. It was about fans throwing fits about Welker. I for one think he's great for the system he's in, but if he was in Miami the last 5 years. He would of just been a average Wr with 70 to 80 receptions a year for around 850 yards and 2 to 4 TD's. As for Hate for Brian i see it in every thread about him, or WR in general.

Just "thank you?" If you don't think my post was the single greatest post ever in the history of postdom, then you are a hater. Throw in the fact that I'm white and you are clearly racially profiling.

Please provide some examples so I can see what qualifies as "hate."

My only knocks on hartline is that he falls down on over the shoulder catches and uses his body way to much when catching the ball.

Oh yeah, my bad bro. I guess I'm not really one for hyperbole, us whites gotta look out for each other after all. Damn NFL has been trying to keep us out for years.

I remember last year when 90% of the forum was clamoring for another talented #2 receiver to replace Hartline alongside B. Marsh, & now that he's our #1 he's Steve Largent.

I understand a lot of you are excited about the WCO (maybe even a little delusional), but the Cleveland Browns run the WCO, and I don't think everyone in Cleveland is giddy over the thought of Mohamed Massaquoi being their top receiver. Some of you may not want to admit it but we're in the process of rebuilding, we couldn't get a receiver this season, but we'll look to add one or more next year.

The Packers are 4 deep at Wideout right now in Greg Jennings, James Jones, Jordy Nelson, and Randall Cobb. I don't want our "4 deep" to be Brian Hartline, Davone Bess, Clyde Gates, & B.J Cunningham. I'm not bashing Hartline, I think he's a decent #2, I'd just like to see the talent level of the corps elevated next year, & give Tannehill some toys to play with.

As I've daid before, I consider YAC to be a vastly overrated

Since Hartline's YAC is "only" 2.9, that got me wondering what was Brandon Marshall's YAC with the Dolphins? With the Broncos it was 4.64 which is a yard and a half more then Hartline's for a player considered the "BEAST".

So far I've found that in his first two seasons here his YAC was.......wait for it........

2.98

So as I said in a previous post. YAC is VASTLY overrated. IMO, 90% of a wide receiver's job is to run good routes, get open and catch the ball.

If you are counting on your WR (or TE or RB) to break lose for a extra two yards to get the first down then you called the wrong pass route. Unless it is a fly, go or post route, the vast amount of WRs are tackled as they catch the ball.

If a WR run good routes, gets open and catches the ball when it comes close to him, I do not care what his YAC is.

If we are grading how good a WR is on his YAC then it is a big mistake.

LUG HAS SPOKEN!
