Winners
Davon Godchaux - Perhaps the surprise of camp and the preseason, Godchaux as a fifth-round pick by Miami this year appears to be the starting defensive tackle next to Ndamukong Suh. He has been impressive every day of camp and in the games, where he has four tackles and is consistently plugging up the middle of the line of scrimmage. He comes into the NFL already working and talking like a professional - a theme we will see throughout the winners and losers list - and it is paying off for him. If he can keep playing like this, and there will still be rookie mistakes at times, but if he can minimize those, Godchaux will free up Suh to do what Suh does, and gives the linebackers a chance to move around without linemen blocking them. Godchaux could have a huge impact on the Dolphins’ defense this year.
Losers
Jordan Phillips - Godchaux’s leap into the starting lineup comes at the expense of Phillips, who as the selection after Parker in 2015 for the Dolphins does not yet seem to have the “professionalism” theme figured out. He has struggled with consistency, something that was mentioned when he was in college and continues now with the Dolphins. Phillips has admitted he has struggled with being able to bring it on every play, and now it may be costing him his starting position. He probably still makes the roster, but it is not as definitive as it once was.

Godchaux is a great story and hopefully he can continue his level of play into the season. If he ends up being the answer oppositie Suh that would be huge for this team.

McMillan might have topped this list if he hadn't gotten hurt. Looks like this could be a nice draft class for Miami when all is said and done.

To me, Doughty has been a disappointment along with Phillips. I was hoping Doughty would show improvement from last year and that he clearly belonged in the NFL. We haven't seen that yet.

I guess if you are Jordan Phillips plus grades vs the ravens puts you on the stock down list.

author probably should have waited for a bad game to put his name out

It seems some people get down on or flat out dislike a player and they lose the ability to provide a fair analysis of how the player is performing. If Phillips had another name on the back of his jersey he likely would not have been on the stock down list.

It's hard for me to really see it as a demotion when you are in the game on the 2nd series with the 1s. That looks more like a rotation than a true demotion. But I guess we will see when and how his run comes Thursday.

I guess it's now, safe to say, that Godchaux has been better than anyone that has lined up next to Suh, since Suh has been here. Philips is what he is. He's been an inconsistent player who for what ever reason, cannot put it all together. He's got emence talent, that he somehow is unable to unleash on every snap. At the end of last season there were moments in the final games, that I said, "WOW" this guy finally gets it. I give him credit for his efforts in trying to improve. But sometimes, for whatever reason guys like Godchaux, come along after an uneventful or up and down college career and just play lights out in the pros. He apparently did what he was ask to do at the college level at the expense of his own glory. The one thing I've noticed about Godchaux has been the consistent reference to his strong hands, that help give him leverage. To be honest that may be the deciding factor as to why Godchaux has been better than Philips to this point. Godchaux has been a Godsend to this defense. Philips may never be more than what he's been, as a rotational backup? But as long as Godchaux continues to provide the Dolphins with this type of play, it doesn't make Philips any less valuable. Although this may be Philips last season in Miami?

That would be the worst possible approach...playing ping pong week to week. Too many decisions in a short period of time lend to inevitable inaccuracy.

The article was a big picture overview, the proper method.

I'm not following. Are you saying the author should put Phillips on the stock down list even though he didn't have a bad game because it would be playing ping pong week to week so just say he played poorly regardless of how he actually played? I just need clarification.

I think Awsi is saying "look at the big picture". One good game doesn't erase a bad pre-season including a bad training camp.

He didn't have a bad preseason game last week either and from what I've heard he hasn't had a bad camp. Godchaux may be playing better than Phillips or Taylor but that doesn't mean they've played poorly, just that Godchaux has played better. Now if everyone was saying Godchaux has looked poor or just so-so but he still looks better than the other options that would be different. I think Phillips has looked like a rotational DT in the two preseason games and throughout his career so far and that looks like the role he'll play this season too.

As I said earlier people seem to be frustrated because they what Phillips to be an A level talent and he seems to be stuck a B or B- range. Sure we might want more, but it doesn't make sense to me to cut or trade him and then go seek a C or D level tackle to fill his roster spot. If you're going to find an A or B level it's going to cost you money and your'e going to need to trade quality player or draft picks. As frustrated as some seem to be with Phillips he's still a good value for his salary range.

Or maybe Phillips just isn't as talented as the FO thought and we were meant to believe. If that's not the case, he might be the dumbest player in the league if he is getting his job taken because he's too lazy. I'm starting to get tired of the lazy excuse. Maybe he just is a rotational DT that we overdrafted. For every one of those mistakes, there is a Reshad Jones or Jay Ajayi that makes up for it. The draft is a total crapshoot as well all know. Keeping Phillips is smart until it's time to resign lol then see ya later big man

Tankersley is impressive too

I think he's going to be a stud. He was the best DB on the best team in college ball. The dude has the size, speed, and seems not afraid of the NFL even though I know it's only preseason. I think Tank contributes sooner than some think. I see Xavien and Tank as our starting CBs for years. I was totally against a first DE but man has Harris shown he belongs. Raekwon's issue sucks but when you have guys like Davon Godchaux and Vincent Taylor playing as if they were top 3 round talents it makes things a little easier to handle. Very impressed by our Front Offices ability to draft. They've brought in some awesome talent and good teammates
