Miami fans need to learn patience

These ultra-negative threads are really getting tiring. To all the ultra-negative posters, you have three choices: 1) You can jump off a bridge 2) You can switch teams and become a Colts fan 3) You can be patient.

I'm not preaching blind patience. Sure we laid a big, fat, ugly turd in Cleveland yesterday. That happens in the NFL unfortunately. Jimmy Johnson is considered a really good coach and in 1997, we were shut out something like 37-0 by a horrible Indianapolis Colts team (and we even had Dan back then!).

People don't want to hear it, but Saban was left with too many issues and problems to fix in one offseason. Wannstedt and Saban screwed this team over with stupid signings and draft moves to try to save their skins. Like it or not, it's the truth.

That being said, has Coach Saban made rookie coaching mistakes? Yes. And he'll make more. But he WILL make this team into a legitimate contender - something Dave Wannstedt could never do. Look at all the talent Wannstedt had. What did we ever do? We won one playoff game. If Saban inherited that team, we would have done A HELL OF A LOT MORE!!!!!

Last year, one of our biggest problems was not having a starting quality running back. Now we have two. We also have two promising young rookies in Daniels and Crowder. I think with more time and experience, Matt Roth and Manuel Wright will be productive as well.

We will pick up our franchise QB this offseason, either in the draft, free agency or via trade. We will also pick up some really good CBs in the same manner.

Our salary cap situation for next season is in awesome shape. We can afford to get a couple of big name (and play additions) as well as a high draft pick. This will be Mueller's first draft with the Dolphins, and with Saban's knowledge of college players, I am extremely excited! This could be one of the best Dolphins drafts in a long, long time.

Things are going to get better in Miami. People talk about how we have gotten worse throughout the year. Before the turd we left in Cleveland yesterday, we almost beat the Atlanta Falcons (who went to the NFC Championship Game last year) and the New England Patriots (the reigning Super Bowl Champions).

I haven't been happy with the playcalling, and it sounds as if Saban hasn't been either. Linehan may be headed out the door this offseason, along with the players who just want to collect their paychecks.

Were the Dolphins a one year fix? Obviously not. I was hoping they would be, but in my heart, I knew we just had too many holes to fill on this team.

So as I previously stated, choose from one of the three aforementioned options and God Bless.

Go Phins!

patience? This team hasn't made the playoffs in years. They haven't had a good playoff run in even more years.

How much more patience do we need to have!

O'Please....how about forgetaboutit.

I'd be glad to forget about comments like these. Make your choice, man. Show some patience or find another team.

Or number 4. They can tirelessly wine and ***** on a message board and make it worse for everybody.

How is the lack of success in the playoffs (and that's putting it nicely) that Wannstedt had Nick Saban's fault?

He was left a big **** sandwich by Wanny and Spielman and has to eat it now.

Would I have loved to have made a great playoff run this year? **** yes! But it ain't gonna happen this year.

I trust Nick Saban. When you trust a coach, patience is the only option a true fan has.

Excellent point. That's what several of Finheaven's biggest whiners have done in this post already.

Blah. Blah. Blah. Dolphin fans have more patience than brains.

If we lost the way we lost to Buffalo of Atlanta fighting hard to win, I would be happy...But the way we lost to Cleveland is totally unacceptable...That 1st play run TD was a disgrace.....
They switch frikkin quaterbacks v.s and Charlie Frye had a a pro bowl game..

I am right with you about fans being patient. I agree some fans expectation were way to high for this season. The only problem is I think it is more frustration than patience. That showing Sunday was absolutely pathetic and I am still scratching my head over what I watched. That is just my take on it. What does everyone else think?

I wasnt really surprised by the outcome.

1. Browns are at home, and we suck on the road.

2. They are a younger team and therefore will play better down the stretch.

3. They have more talent.

4. We were playing with a backup QB.

Well right now, things have to get better because they can't really get any worse.

I am a bit disappointed Saban couldn't do more with less.
I have doubt for coaches who seem to have a penchant for passing the ball all the damn time. Especially when it is not a strength.

I feel that patience would help the coaching staff moreso than the fans. If they would exercise patience in their using the ground game to dominate, we would win more.

I totally agree with you. Yesterday was pathetic. I have to lay most of the blame on the players, though. They played like ****. Is Saban responsible for getting them ready to play? Yes. But the players are supposedly proud professionals making EXTREMELY good money.

Our defense is old and our corners (with the exception of Travis Daniels) suck. We will continue to get younger and better on defense.

I point back to the 37-0 loss we suffered in Indy back in 1997. That was even worse than this one because Indy was horrible that year and ended up with the first pick in the draft. Every team in the NFL has to endure **** like that every once in a while. Now if yesterday's game becomes a habit, then I'll be very worried.

I think the lack of patience is largely a symptom of being kept in the dark. I think most fans would feel better if Saban could be honest about his opinions of the team. For various reasons, that is impossible, but I know I would feel better if Saban were to come out and say:

1. "Hey, I know Gus isn't playing that well, but I'm planning on addressing the QB situation in the offseason. In the meantime, we'll probably give Lemon a few starts to see if he has something to offer."

2. "It takes a while for my defensive system to take hold. We need to upgrade a few spots and the holdovers will be better in the system in year 2."

3. "My coaching staff is still making some adjustments. Linehan and I are still trying to merge our philosophies on offense and we're getting outguessed a bit on defense." "The chemistry on the coaching staff isn't where I want it to be."

Unfortunately, most fans can only judge improvement based on wins & losses. I personally trust Saban to get this turned around, because I think he has the ability to look at the big picture objectively and be honest with himself...whether the deficiencies lie with the players, coaches, or scouts. The frustration with Wannstedt was his inability to objectively assess any part of the team. Saban knows what he is doing, it's just frustrating as fans because we're not in on the big secret.
