During the extended off season I told a few of my friends that the lockout had greatly reduced my desire to follow football as in depth as i normally would. They laughed at me and told me that the second the lockout was lifted, i'd fall back in love with the game and forget it ever happened. I half heartedly agreed with them and moved on.

The reality is - I don't enjoy watching football this year anywhere near as much as i used to and don't know who is more to blame: The NFL or the Miami Dolphins.

NFL
The lockout in itself was painful to sit through. We all knew that the season would commence on time, but the non stop bickering between Billionaires and Millionaires was too much to handle. I almost wanted the season to be cancelled - at least it would mean one less year of Tom Brady to worry about. Truthfully, the lockout soured me as a fan. I'm just not sure i'll ever get back to where i once was.

Roger Goodell - i get why he is trying to change the game. He has two agendas: Protect players to prevent future lawsuits when real concrete proof of concussions and brain trauma are made public & extend his season to further generate revenue.

My issue is that he has created a league where every single time a player is hit i immediately scan the field for a yellow flag. I'm almost worried that we'll get pressure on a Tom Brady type QB because a personal foul is likely to ensue. The fact of the matter is, Football in general isn't as enjoyable as it was a few years ago. I'm all for protecting a player - but the protection these All Pro QBs get is downright sickening.

Miami Dolphins

Here's where i struggle to decipher if I'm just losing interest in Football or if the Dolphins are pushing me away from it.

This past Sunday i did something that i have never done before. I turned a Miami Dolphins game off after the 3rd quarter and went to bed. Consider the fact that this was a prime time divisional game against the Jests and my story should put things into perspective.

Everything about this team bores me. The product on the field is pathetic. Top to bottom. I absolutely despise seeing Jason Taylor out there - and not because he went to play for New York, heck who am I to criticize someone for working for an organization where you are wanted. I hate seeing him because he sucks. Same with Carey and Colombo and Hartline and Misi and Incognito, etc. etc. etc.

I honestly try to avoid catching glimpses of Skinny Tony S. on the sidelines. The sight of his sunglasses, Dolphins cap and windbreaker annoy me to no end. Everything about that man (as a coach) sickens me. This off season he openly admitted that he was too conservative in the past and vowed to change it - yet he has shown no signs of progress this year. His press conferences are humiliatingly elementary. His inability to manage a game is dumbfounding. And his lack of cojones is - well after 4 years - to be expected.

I guess the point i'm trying to make here is that the NFL and the Miami Dolphins are losing a fan here. I'm sure that if we land Andrew Luck in '12 my love for the game will be reincarnated. However, i don't expect my stance on the state of football to change any. The reality is, this game is being transformed in front of our eyes by corporate greed and billionaires who want even more than what they already have.

I agree with you to a large extent. Even when I thought the Dolphins would be reasonably good,
I wasn't hyped for this season. I am watching LOTS more college ball this year.

Every other team except maybe St.Louis is still making exciting plays here and there, but Miami on the other hand is nothing but an eyesore out there.

I don't think the NFL has been as exciting as usual this year. Defenses suck and I like to watch good hard hitting defense and a chess match between coaches.

I've seen a lot more exciting games in college than I have in NFL this year. Miami sucking certainly has a lot to do with it though.

Miami has been apart of some very exciting games..

Yes we have been on the losing end of it, but to me they still have been fun to watch..

I love the Dolphins, I will watch them no matter what..

I think I have missed only 5 plays the last 4 years.

I wish we were winning, but what can you do?

I turned it off after the 3rd quarter as well...the Fins just can't score and once a team goes up on us...it's a wrap. This team has no punch on offense and has a coach with no balls.

You are on point...I too hit the power button instead of watching the 3rd.

Nice post

Pathetic! This thread is PATHETIC! How can you call yourself a true Dolphins fan, wait, you clearly aren't a true Dolphins fan, a true fan would never turn off the TV in the third quarter. I have couldn't stop watching the Dolphins no matter how painful it is, and it is painful. I was at the Dolphins Patriots Monday night game last year, we lost 41-14...But I sat there through all of it. As I sat there and watched the stadium empty out I was shocked at how people just left, gave up, I don't agree with that.

Glad you have the time & stomach for it...My time is VALUABLE and Ross needs to send me a check if he expects me to "suffer thru the pain" as you say.

35 year fan...Caught a glimpse of Zonk & the no name D play with pride...Rode the Marino wave...been patient thru the 00's...Will care again when the franchise decides enough is enough.

I'm 44 years old. I get up and work 12.5 hour shifts in a maximum security prison in Texas.
Son, if you have the passion to watch irrelvevance in motion, then, good on you. I don't.
I have to give all I've got every day, otherwise, I might wind up with a shank in my throat.
It involves waking up at 2 AM to be at work by 4 to be subject to a TSA level pat down,
then, getting all the way across a 3/4 of a mile long unit to get to Segregation, only to then
be responsible for issuing gas and attending shift turnout by 5am.

I've got bigger fish to fry than watch the team I've lived and died with since 1973 **** all over
themselves and the memory of what this franchise was.

Watch who you call "Fan" there......Brandon....... When you clock the hours of agony with this team I have,
give me a call.

ETA; Point being: Why sit up all night and watch craptastic dip****s when I could get some needed sleep?

I had half joked during the lockout that with Sparano and Henne coming back I kind of hope they go on strike becuase it's going to be a long season.

Actually I'm glad they didn't. This season is almost to the halfway point already and then it's a high draft pick and new coach.

I held out hope after the New England and Houston games that they could do something this season. The Cleveland game really stomped out all hope for this season. The games are tough to watch anymore. It's more like I have the Dolphins game on instead of really watching it.

I actually look foward to the college games more even though I don't really have any one team.

I am excited for draft day though. I don't even care about the Super Bowl unless the undefeated record is threatened. As long as the winner isn't New England or some team I can't stand then good for the next champions now let's get on with 2012!

I'd have to agree with the OP.

I too have lost interest after being an avid NFL fan for close to 40 years.

No NFL ticket for me this year, I'm not making those greedy *******s any richer.

I love watching defense and the product the NFL as whole is putting up is garbage.
Nobody can seem tackle and the offensive scores are just way too easy anymore. Except for the Fins. LOL

Why even keep seasonal stats when they change the rules every year to allow for more scoring.

30 TD passes in 1980 now equals 50 TD passes in 2011.

A couple of weeks ago i took my wife for a motorcycle ride rather than watching the Fins lose another game.

I still follow them and may post here and there while I'm getting paid at work. But the days of wasting my personal time with this carppy product are over for me.
