Of course we got Ted Ginn with his 4.2 40 yard dash. We also signed:

Alex Marvez, of the Sun-Sentinel, reports the Miami Dolphins have agreed to terms with Howard free-agent CB Geoff Pope, according to agent Rich De Luca.

Gil Brandt, of NFL.com, reports Howard CB Geoff Pope measured a height of 5-foot-11 5/8 and a weight of 186 pounds at his Pro Day. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.30 seconds and 4.29 seconds, the short shuttle in 4.17 seconds and the three-cone drill in 7.13 seconds. He measured a 35-inch vertical jump, a 9-foot-11 broad jump and completed 15 repetitions on the 225-pound bench press.

We basically just signed another Shirdona Mitchell.

so he's got the measurables but is he not a very good player on the field that he didnt get drafted anyone got anything else on this guy? Still worth taking a look at I guess

Speed while nice doesn't always equal success.

Hes an undrafted free agent...there are obviously issues with the guy other wise he would be drafted...FO is just filling out the roster and hoping they get lucky on a guy or possibly two..

Geoff Pope, ANALYSIS:

Positives:
Possesses rare timed speed and easily stays tight with receivers working down field...Shows a sudden burst to recover and close...Has adequate change of direction agility and balance...Light on his feet and shows the range to make plays along the sidelines...Does a good job of tracking the ball in flight, but lacks natural hands to secure the ball...Allows little cushion shadowing the receiver off the line. Negatives: Has a lean, muscular frame, built more in the lines of a sprinter (thin calves and ankles with thin arms)...Lacks instincts and is slow to react to the ball in flight...Can stay with the receivers in man coverage, but will get fooled by double moves...Has very good timed speed, but it is sometimes negated by his stiff hips, as he struggles to turn and break cleanly...Lacks natural hands and lets the ball into his body rather than reaching and extending for it...Struggles to look the ball in over his outside shoulder...Big liability against the run, as he stands around and lets others make the hit...Marginal tackler with minimal power behind his hits...Needs to show more courage taking on ball carriers, as he will duck his head or take a side rather than hit them squarely...spends too much time trying to regain balance coming out of his backpedal...Would get a better turning motion if he was not so high in his stance through the pedal...Lacks aggression and will generally get pushed around working near the line...Does a marginal job in press and is better served just shadowing his man...Not the type who will play with pain. Compares To: FRED SMOOT-Washington...With his sprinter-type frame, it is evident that Pope has excellent speed, but it is negated somewhat by his stiff hips, as he struggles in transition. He stands around too much when asked to play against the run, and while he has the range to close, he has just marginal tackling ability. He has a track man's mentality and will not play with pain. He struggles to track the ball over his outside shoulder and lacks natural hands. A Ronald Bartell (Rams) or Antoine Bethea (Colts) he is not. Like Smoot, he will have to drastically alter his game and play with better courage or he could be on the unemployment line next year.

Big difference, Mitchell makes mistakes on the feild in coverage but at the same time is an excellent tackler and is a plus against the run, this guy is a liability against the run.

Mitchell may help us a lot this year in nickel or dime. Everything seems to be depending mostly on what comes from Jason Allen this year.

Tall enough. Just like complaints about John Beck being too short at 6'1.5". Steve Young is 6'2". Brees is 5'11". Flutie was 5'10".

So he can't cover a leaping 6'4" guy. So what? If he can be a #2 or #3 corner.... heck, we've given up a #1 pick for that before(see Jamar Fletcher). Mel Philips is a good teacher... if this guy can play, we'll find out soon.
