Miami hinted it was going after quantity...

They had a lot of open spots and needed to sign a lot of guys. Well, to do that they will not be able to sign the big boys. Second tier all the way here. So don't be shocked that they will ignore sticker shock and methodically pursue role guys.

Well, maybe this weekend we will sign a few 2nd tier guys.

I hope Randy and Cam know what they are doing.I know that Randy is good at spotting talent.

But it seems like we are always signing second tier talent...When is the last time we actually went out and gave a top player the money they deserved...I feel that we should pay Dielman and Porter the money they want...

I think each team can only have a few "top tier" guys on the team. Ours are Zack Thomas and Jason Taylor. Also, Culpepper and Chambers. They're getting paid as if they were... OUr "top tier guys" are already on the team.

Most of the guys they released were 2nd tier guys, so what's the difference? When you sign a bunch of average guys you end up being ......average.
I'm holding out hope that Mueller has a grand plan over the next 2-3 yrs.

That's the problem, DC and CC aren't top tier guys. You could make an argument that neither one is among the top 10-15 at their respective positions.
As a matter of fact, until DC demonstrates that he has fully recovered, he's not even a top 20 NFL QB.

Dielman is going to sign with Seattle where he gets paid. Looks like Randy is sitting back waiting for all the talent to get signed. Buffalo signed 3 OL yesterday. I guess the 6th rd and leftovers will be herded thru Davie again this year. Our Defensive Line will be fine with Evans, Wright bros, Roth, JT, and Holiday. We just swept like 6 Ol guys away like they were dust, knowing that their upside wasn't going to be good for us(McIntosh,McKinney, Jacox, Anderson, James and Vickerson. Miami may as well build with good cornerstones so the team will go forward together as a team, learn to lose and win together. That's what builds championships. Hopefully Toledo will stay healthy and contribute this year.
Next year the team will have cap money to pick up specialty players to fine tune for the next Super Bowl in Miami.

You know what the sad thing is? We can fill holes with 2nd tier guys, and still up grade the team very well.

This approach tells me a few things:

1) They want depth. With only (as of now) 6 draft picks and a bunch of guys leaving or being cut, they'll need a certain amount of lower priced players.

2) They want to fill as many holes as possible with guys who have upside instead of guys who have reached their peak and command huge contracts.

3) They may really want Brady Quinn. Mueller did say that they wanted to fill as many holes as possible to give them flexibility in the draft, meaning that they could opt for picking positions (QB, RB) on the first day that may not be as big of a need.

As i always think with the Fins "hope for the best but expect the worst" that way i dont usually get dissapointed. We are mid range with our cap so there are alot of teams worse than us in the FA market. Would be nice to grab Porter though so who knows.

If there was ever a chance to upgrade a position of need it is now with Joey Porter. I mean with him on one side and Crowder switching to ILB when we go 3-4, that would unleash Jason Taylor and we could line him or Porter anywhere and get some major QB hurries and eventually sacks. We must get Joey Porter if no one else.

I also saw RB Sammy Morris visited NE on Friday. How many times have we lost our guys to NE? This was something that could have been taken care of months but "no", says Mueller, "we'll work on re-signing later after he talks to the Patriots and probably the Jets so they can get him." I just don't understand Mueller's logic in this. Morris isn't a top-tier guy, why couldn't we have re-signed before FA started. And last year we were starting to see our OL playing as a good unit and now the only guys we have are Hadnot and Carey. It just doesn't make sense to me. EDIT: Oh yeah and we retained L.J. Shelton but as our LT!

I think you guys are missing the gist of our strategy. It's not about first tier or second tier guys. It's about first and second tier contracts. We are being cautious with the money we are spending to better stabilize our organization.

If Dielman or Porter can be had at expensive, but inteligently expensive contracts, you think Mueller is not going to pull the trigger?

100% correct. CC and DC are def not top tier.
