John Clayton just reported on ESPN Torry Holt is expected to be released later this week and he said jets and dolphins were among teams interested. But i doubt we get in a bitting war with the jets....

Can the Jets seriously have any cap room left at this point?

I heard the same thing, Clayton was only speculating. He says "Maybe even Miami." after he names the short list of teams he thinks could be interested in Holt. If we didn't make a legitimate run at Coles, why would we make a run at Holt? He is older and will probably want similar money. I wouldn't put too much into this one.

I agree but more talent than coles to...

Personally, I think Holt's better than Coles, and will not demand the money Coles did. I could be wrong though.

When you factor in that Coles was drafted by Parcells, played many seasons with Pennington, and we still didn't bring him in? The front office is practically screaming that they just aren't that interested in putting money into an older receiver. Veteran leadership is one thing, but when you have a stable of young guys who have been developing nicely together, why would you want to slow that down? Building blocks, not band-aids.

true, but Coles did get $7 Million a season to go to the bengals.

I don't think WR should be an area of need till we have a QB that has the arm strength to make all the throws. Like it or not, agree or disagree, Chad Pennington has limitations and it makes little sense to bring in players that won't be used properly.

I woul be shocked if we signed Holt unless the FO is doing so because one of our young QB's is very close to making reguar starts, with Penningtons history, that may be sooner rather than later. However if Chad stays healthy and plays all of 2009, Tory Holt will not make any more of an impact on this team than any WR we already have.

This isn't a knock on Pennington, this isn't saying we have equal talent to holt already on the roster. The reason we ran the wildcat last year was the same reason we didn't have a dominant skill position star. Miami is still lacking in the talent needed to run a game plan that people can prepare for, yet struggle to stop.

Miami had to be as creative as possible to win games last year. Ted Ginn looked like a stud against the Bills, but the very next week wasn't part of the game plan, that was by design. I still see much of the same type of game plan for the Dolphins in 09. Holt really wouldn't bring to the table what he could because we are still not where we need to be to get the most out of him.

Drafting a WR is much more likely because of the long term investment.
