Miami: Meet your new GM...Dan Marino

Marino took a job with the Dolphins before.

He then quit after a few short weeks.

He probably got in there and realize what a dumpster fire he was involved with.
 
It's been one endless ****show charade since Huizenga took over.

Wannstedt running the War Room? C'mon.
 
Marino's got better things to do. Don't get too caught up in Elways great achievements. Peyton went for the money and Denver is nowhere near as good as it thinks it is.

we already trid this in 2004 i think...he quit a few days after the job was given to him...

I fail to the logic; what exactly qualifies Marino as GM, and what does Elway's success - if you'd call it such, have to do with Marino's qualifications to be GM? Such a leap of logic you're jumping off the cliff.

I know! How about we hire Bob Griese to be GM? He has more Super Bowl rings than Marino, and knows how to put together an undefeated team! Whoo!
 
Heck, Elway lied to Tebow, he had said he had earned the starting job, isn't that what some players and fans accused Ireland of? (lying..?)

Or is there a set of rules for ex-football players and non-players.

Personally I feel Marino doesn't enjoy the politics on was goes on behind the butcher shop (management) in making player decisions.

I however do feel he would be a great Offensive coordinator or QB coach.

what is Elway doing in Denver? His team was awful enough to draft second overall last year. They were lucky enough to win 8 games this year because of FOUR overtime wins in miraculous fashion by the guy he just replaced. Manning going to Denver isn't about anything Elway said or did, it was just the circumstances Manning liked and comfort knowing them. That doesn't work with every free agent. You know what does? Answering the question "how much are you going to pay me?" with "more than the other teams."

I weighed the situation out for a few minutes because I really didn't want to disturb him. He was alone. No family or friends around. I felt like it was an ok time to go and possibly get a handshake....no autograph request.

I walked up to him and extended my hand and he looked up to me as he was sitting down. I said something like - "Mr. Marino I've watched you since I was a kid growing up in Vegas and" - He interrupted me and just said "I'm busy" as he stared off at nothing. I was pretty put off and embarrassed. I pretty much just told him 'thank you for your time' and walked away. I loved watching the man throw the football through the years, but unfortunately in my eyes, the man is a prick.

I had the exact opposite reaction, I met him in a little market in Weston and he was holding two bottles of wine , one in each hand and everyone was ignoring him. I thought **** that, I'll never get to meet him again and I approached him and held my hand out ( Marino is a huge dude by the way) and he fumbled with his bottles and shook my hand, and I told him not to worry about all the negative press and we still believed in him ( the press was riding him hard that he was washed up) , he said, " I never listen to that stuff" and smiled and then continued shopping.

He was very cordial, nice and friendly, so there you go, wierd huh?

Marino would rather have a cushy job that pays more than help his former team- it's a little disappointing, but maybe he isn't management type. Heck, Shula still serves the organization on some capacity (as a chairman).

I admire what Elway is doing with his team, but he prepared himself by running a football team outside of NFL for several years prior the going back to Denver.

Conversly, Marino isn't experienced / geared for a professional management role, though I'm sure he'd be highly valuable on a Consultant capacity.
 
I love Marino more than any other football player but I do not think he is fit for the job.

I met him several times at signings and he was very kind, if fact I had my 10 year old daughter with me at one of the signings and we met him outside before he went in. He stoppped to say hi and I introduced him to my daughter, about 3 hours later after waiting on line to get his sig, he said hi to me and my daughter and remembered her name, which impressed me..

You have to admit sitting alone on a beach staring into nothingness and telling anyone who bothers you that you're busy.. is pretty awesome. Thank you for that visual.

Being a local I've heard a lot of negative stories from people who have interacted with Dan. It's a shame, but celebrities are approached so often that I can't really hold the occasional prickish behavior against them.

I want to say he's probably just a jerk, but then again, I bet a LOT of the people who come up to him want money or something from him and at some point I'm sure even a very patient person would just say '**** it.'
