The Miami Dolphins have spent a lot of time this offseason filling the void left by Olivier Vernon who moved on to the Giants. Miami needs to now turn its focus to the cornerback position. Miami must add at least one more veteran corner before training camp.

The Miami Dolphins have been active this offseason in building their defensive line. They have signed Mario Williams, Cleyon Laing, Andre Branch, Farrington Huguenin, and now Jason Jones. Miami has left no stone unturned, in regards to replacing Vernon on the defensive line and creating a dominant pass rush and brick wall against the run. It’s clear that Miami wants to be physical up front.

The Dolphins must now turn this same attention to their secondary and add another veteran cornerback. The Dolphins were 21st against the pass last year, allowing 31 touchdowns through the air, 53 passes longer than 20 yards, and 13 passes longer than 40 yards. Those are not encouraging numbers. The Dolphins have to do something to turn them around.

Vance Joseph is building this defense to resemble the Seahawks. An attacking, pass rushing defensive front paired with a press cover 3 defense. Miami has matched Seattle in the pass rushing department, but is way lacking when it comes to the secondary. Seattle’s defense is so effective because the pass rush has time to get to the quarterback. The corners and safeties press at the line and cover the corners long enough for the pressure to get there.

Miami cannot expect to have an effective copycat of Seattle with only one half of the formula. They need to bring in players that will hold the receivers off their routes long enough for players like Wake and Williams to get the sack. A dominant line and a porous secondary will still end in frustration for Miami.

I don't know anything about Farrington Huguenot. Please tell me more. Thx.

Not exactly the first name that comes to mind when you think about the Miami line that's for sure..

Former Kentucky defensive end, Farrington Huguenin, signed a free agent contract Sunday with the Miami Dolphins. Huguenin accounted for 52 total tackles in his senior season. He had 10 in Kentucky's loss at Vanderbilt, and recorded one and a half sacks on the year.http://www.lex18.com/story/31860638/farrington-huguenin-signs-free-agent-contract-with-miami

It would be awesome if he was a Huguenot. Maybe he could help us pray our way to victory.

Wouldn't be surprised if Vance wants his young secondary on the field.

Fail fast, fail forward type of thing.

If we want to compete this year, we must. I mean, who is our slot CB? And if someone gets hurt? I would consider running 4 WR (old run and shoot) against our defense if playing against it.

Leon Hall makes sense with relationship to Vance Joseph, but health could be a bigger issue. Maybe a pre-camp signing?

a lot of those deep passes were related to the lack of pass rush.....so why isn't anyone talking about the elephant in the room, named Greg Hardy - one year, incentive-laden deal?
Have a short leash and again, rotate him with the other ends you have. Forget the background, is he a fit on the defense?

Because hopefully he gets hit by a train before training camp.

I dont care what he had done in the past. If he can come in and destroy linemen and qb's for cheap, I am game. Let someone else sign him long term. Positions of needed depth, like corner, de and ol, need one or two guys that come in for one year deals. It is the only way to help the cap and for teams to manage, financially.

I care about what he did in the past and what he does in the future, which hopefully includes getting hit by a train, preferably while not wearing Dolphins gear. :idk:

I agree with your statement. I disagree with the solution. I'll add though, from memory, it seems half or more of the TDs allowed in the last 8 games were on Taylor and Grimes (against alpha receivers). Both are gone - that should help. But, I think the pass rush will be pretty good as it stands - Wake, Suh, Williams, Phillips (I hope), KA. Good play-calling by VJ could get others involved. IMO, the next signing should be RB or CB.
