After a change-filled offseason, the Miami Hurricanes are already feeling some heat.
On the warmest day this year at their sun-drenched campus, an 89-degree scorcher, the Hurricanes -- with a rebuilt coaching staff and a revamped playbook -- opened spring practice Tuesday, the first step in what coach Larry Coker hopes is a quick return to college football's highest echelon.
"This has not been a disaster around here," Coker said. "Other than Texas, we still have the winningest program in the country in the last five years. We have to realize that. But are we satisfied? No, we're not satisfied. That's the thing that will cause some changes."
Half his starters from last year's 9-3 club are gone, and six assistant coaches -- with new ideas and philosophies -- were hired to replace others dismissed after an embarrassing and humiliating 40-3 loss to LSU in the Peach Bowl.
