Miami Pass Defense: #2 Passer Rating, #2 INTs, #3 Sacks

Going to have to disagree with this. The only time our defense got beaten up was against the Saints. Every other game our offense hasn't been putting up enough points or sustaining drives. Every game our defense is being FORCED to try and win the game for us, they've been consistently good, and if they give up a drive at the end of the game because our offense is pathetic, you don't put that on the defense.

Um, the D deserves the blame too. Sure, the Offense didn't step up and put up a TD when they needed it a few times, but you can't entirely blame the offense for letting teams back in from big deficits. The defense had been continually gashed in the second half by no name QBs, 3rd and 4th string RBs, and untimely lapses in coverage. They haven't only been giving up drives at the end either. They have given up huge plays in the third quarter to let teams back into games.

Hell, when the third quarter started you can see how the Jets were gashing this team in the run game, it was like deja vu from the last few games. Luckily we tightened up, the Jets played awful, and the Offense scored points. Plus, the D has had some horrible lapses in concentration leading to stupid stupid penalties that have given teams extra opportunities.

I will agree that when the D did make stops, the Offense has more often than not failed to capitalize leading to more pressure to make stops. But the D let teams back into games. You can and should put that on the Defense, just like you can say that the Offense is not scoring enough points. It's a team game.

Allocation of blame is not unilateral in a team sport. The Offense feels just as much pressure to score points when the D gives up a deflating drive and gives up monster 3rd/4th and long, like they have consistently done all season long.

I'm not bashing the D by any means btw. They are certainly the better of the two without a doubt, but they have their flaws as much as the offense does.

The D has been good at not giving up big plays, but there is still work to be done. We've blown the lead in every game we've gone into halftime leading, even with some of those being double digit, and the bottom line is that many times they've saved their worst football in the course of a game for when giving up a TD drive hurts the most - like after a TD drive by our offense, entering the second half after a stellar first half, or in the last couple minutes of the fourth quarter. And they have done this regardless of the skill and experience of the opposing QB. Their inability to close things out has in turn put the onus for winning back on the offense that has had numerous key players out for significant times or the season due to injury or "other", which ironically has hurt them because the offense feeling pressured to score results in more passing, which stops the clock more and actually increases the time the defense has to be on the field.

Our defense has played as well as our current record indicates, not as well as some rankings may indicate.
