Miami Right Guards In Focus

Pass protection is where he held up..
Thats what we need..
At least he looks strong enough to play the position.
Dallas Thomas looks like a ragdoll out there

:bobdole:

Although for what it's worth. Through all the bull**** recently topped with a lovely cherry, that being the pouncey injury.

Hickey down to Degou have done a tremendous job changing the look and performance of the o-line. One more offseason and this o-line will be set

Did ya happen to catch that first clip?? Shelley was thrown around like a ragdolll as well. If Shelley would have played vs McCoy, he wouldn't be the starter. Both are bad but we know Shelley's ceiling is very low. Thomas has a higher ceiling but I have no confidence he will live up to it. I think we need to bring someone in. Being saying it from the start, we don't have 5 starting caliber OL men.

Yes he did on that ONE PLAY TOU BRING UP.. his biggest issues are not physical.. dallas Thomas seems to have physical limitations idk how that is a higher ceiling..
His pass blocking was solid all night though..lets leave that out.
Also he did play vs Mccoy last year did well too

Oddly enough, his best game last year was against McCoy.

That first clip was great. The defender actually opened up a gaping hole there for Moreno...

I was at the game, thought Shelly played well, and did not see any of what they saw. Many beers did not help. :)

Film does make a big difference.

RG is traditionally the worst player on your line. If Shelly Smith can deliver just below average performance than this line will have improved substantially. Great protection on the edge from Albert and James so far..

I've been waiting for Hickey to make a move. I hope that the good showing we had the other night doesn't make it seem like everything is OK...

One thing I don't like about PFF. The people that work for the site aren't that football savvy. The idea behind it is great. But the people on the site are nowhere near as knowledgeable as they think their website is the "gospel". The first clip is a zone read play and the author says the 3 technique over Shelly Smith is "BULLRUSHING" him. No. He's just kicking his ass. Bull rush is a pass rush move, not something you do against the run...

I didn't focus on Shelley a lot but on a few of the long runs Miami had that they showed a replay of he made some good blocks. The first run Moreno had was a great block from Shelley as he ran right behind him. I remember a pitch to the left that Shelley got 8 yards downfield and threw a block. The book on him is he's a good run blocker so I'm not concerned about that and he's clearly a better pass blocker than Dallas Thomas but you'd be hard pressed to find a Guard who isn't. Thomas has no business even being on the team and damn sure doesn't have a higher ceiling. The guy gets DOMINATED physically. He was abysmal last preseason, couldn't get on the field despite having the weakest offensive line in the NFL even after injuries and suspensions and he looks every bit the worse interior lineman on the team this preseason. Thomas even being considered for the starting RG position makes me question the coaching staff. He's THAT bad.

Also, not to burst any bubbles, but Dallas does not have an NFL-caliber defense because of the injuries and key FA loss. The fact that our starting offense did not put at least 17 on the board is a VERY BAD sign. New England will Crush us week one if no personnel moves are made. Their D-line looks SICK right now. Wilfork and Chandler Jones will destroy our back-up center and Juwan James in all probability.
I seriously hope I'm wrong about this.
