Since the 2008 season, Sparano’s first year at the helm, Miami has gone 15-9 away from Sun Life Stadium, including 6-2 campaigns in ’08 and last year. With a trip to Cleveland this weekend the beginning of a three-game road swing, it makes sense that the team is optimistic it can rebound from a 0-2 start.“All I know is that when I go on the road I have my team’s full attention,” Sparano said. “I have their full attention, I’m with them longer, I get to be around them longer, they get to be around the coaches longer. That’s what I know. If that’s a good thing then that’s a good thing.”

Last year the Dolphins opened the season with wins at Buffalo and Minnesota to create some momentum heading into two primetime games against the New York Jets and New England Patriots. They followed those back-to-back tough losses with a 23-20 overtime win over the eventual Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers.

This time around Miami travels to San Diego after facing the Browns and then following the bye week it’s off to MetLife Stadium in New Jersey to take on the New York Jets on Monday Night Football. Tight end Anthony Fasano is a New Jersey native and he has been with the team since the beginning of the Sparano regime, so he sees some validity to the theory that this group seems to play better on the road.

“I guess it’s worked out for us well in the past and we’ve learned how to win on the road, and that’s important,” said Fasano, who caught 14 passes for 173 yards and a touchdown in the eight road games last year. “There’s good things to take out of that but it doesn’t excuse us for not playing well at home. We’re going on a little road swing right now so we’ll have to make the best of it and try to make up for some lost ground.”

Five of Miami’s next six games are away from Sun Life Stadium, so if that three-year trend does continue it could make a significant difference in where this teams playoff chances will stand at the midway point of the season. Back in 2008, the Dolphins found themselves at 2-4 after their first six games and reeled off nine of 10 to finish 11-5 and win the AFC East.

In a unique scheduling twist this year the team will visit MetLife Stadium twice in a span of less than three weeks, with a game against the New York Giants on October 30th after a home game with the Denver Broncos. So this is a chance to create a different feel in the locker room.

“I always felt like when you’re on the road there are less distractions,” said second-year defensive end Jared Odrick, who experienced the road win at Buffalo last year before going on Injured Reserve. “It’s the same thing with being at home in terms of you’re here and going to the hotel and doing everything for a purpose, but when you’re on the road it’s Bus 1 goes at this time and Bus 2 goes at that time.

“So it’s just a little bit different, but as professionals I think that’s something that we still need to handle whether it’s home or away. Even in college that’s one of the things I really liked, being on the road where it’s just you guys going into somebody else’s territory.”

This week the Dolphins are going into Browns territory to face a team coming off of a big win over the Indianapolis Colts. It’ll be the Dolphins players against the Dawg Pound, which might just end up working in Miami’s favor.

Alot is riding on this game including possibally Tony's job.

I think we win big what about you guys ?

I think we will win, but not in a blow out. This is a different team on the road, so I think they'll win.

winning on the road can only mean 1 thing

better dolphin fans in the opposing teams stadium..

I'm hoping we win big...this team needs a jolt. The Browns came into our house last season and pulled off the win...time for a little payback.

I am convinced the reason why are road record has been good is because the majority of the poor teams we faced were on the road.

Yeah, but we did beat the super bowl champs. Trying to stay positive :ponder:

winning on the road is great but that should be a plus, it should not be a chance to get back to 500....you need to win on the road but you must win at home.

Ozzy rules!!

jets packers buffalo(never easy on the road-divisional game)

We win away as opposed to at home because there is no South Beach in Buffalo or wherever else. I don't believe Sparano has a tight reign on players when they're at home hence lack of focus and production

win every away game and that's still 8 - 8

not good enough ... but i do thank they win sunday.
