Miami Running Back position worries me

You have issues if you place Ronnie Brown in the same class as the other running backs. Ronnie Brown was not a superstar nor a bust, but he was solid for us for 6 years.

If you dont think Ronnie Brown underachieved then YOU have issues.

The running back situation is a lot like the offensive coordinator situation.

Just because last year's personnel were inadequate doesn't automatically mean that the new guys are better. Everyone seems to think that just because a guy was inadequate, "there's nowhere to go but up!"

That's really not the case. I kept hammering the point all year in 2010, right from the first couple weeks, that the running backs were looking old, slow, and they're not making people miss...all while everyone in the world kept pretending that the Ricky/Ronnie duo is automatically one of the best in the league sight-unseen. But that doesn't mean there's nowhere to go but up, with this new bunch. I think the Dolphins have downgraded their ball carrying skill set, as a matter of fact...at least temporarily until (and if) Daniel Thomas comes around in his second or third year as a pro.

I'm not worried, but I do think that Daniel Thomas is going to need to be ready to shoulder the load early on. With the shortened offseason, that might be asking a bit much. This was the most intriguing spot for me heading into camp, Hilliard, Grigsby and Sheets are all fighting for roster spots, though, whether we keep 3 or 4 RB's is yet unseen. I also think that Polite might not make the roster if they intend to use an H-back more than a traditional fullback. If that's the case, I think they might lean towards keeping Hilliard as a power short yardage back. I've been a Grigsby fan for a long time, and I think that if properly motivated, he can make the team. All the accounts so far seem to be that he's doing pretty well.

Intrigued by Grigsby.

Daniel Thomas is a rookie 2nd/3rd rounder with 4.6 speed, a power back that played too tall in college to show that power as often as he should have. He's only in his 3rd year playing tailback after moving from Wildcat QB in JUCO. I can't imagine why anyone would doubt him in his rookie season.

And Reggie Bush, that's just a durable, fantastic natural tailback worthy of featuring on every down. I dare anyone to tell me different. [/sarcasm]

Ever since the FO didn't take who you thought they should in the draft you are just nothing but negative, negative, negative. Maybe we should have gone after....Leshoure, ohhhhh snap (that was his achillies).

Nope, Daniel Thomas is a horse. I'll be worried if he gets injured *knock on wood*

Also, Ronnie and Ricky kinda sucked last year.

I would have kept Ronnie or Ricky for insurance, but it sounds like they are very confident that Daniel Thomas can make a good contribution. Statistically, some well credentialed RBs don't make it, but expectations on this guy are pretty high. They have had a lot of time to consider the options and they're banking on Bush and Thomas.

The guy was pretty instrumental in us going 11-5 that year, I don't know about anybody else but that was probably the highlight of my dolphins fan career. I don't know what happened to him last season though, I know the line was garbage but he played bad too. Pretty strange for a guy in a contract year.

I was negative about what was going on with this team long before the Draft. That's just the convenient reason you've latched onto in your mind for why I dislike what is going on with this regime. Whatever helps you sleep at night, I guess. You have a right to be wrong.

You should change your ID to ckgodcomplex. EVERYONE - let it be known that CK is always correct about everything. Yeah, you have more hours to do analysis than everyone else (I guess including this organization as well). I guess that supports all your hours a negative whinning on here. The FO might not be the best but it's what we have right now. It could always be worse. Keep crying over Mallet and Ingram, I'm gonna cheer for Henne and Thomas/Bush.

You must love straw men (biblically), you use them a lot in your arguments.

Oh the great SCOTTY has spoken, he's never wrong about anything. He casts judgment upon malaperts with the sagacity of a turnip seed, on a holy mission handed down from Dan Marino himself, for his virtue is unblemished and his intellect second to none. He hath spoken, and all who would criticize must hear or have their heads explode.

See what I did there? See how I pretended that you said that your opinions are always right even though you never said any such thing? You see how I completely changed the subject from talking about something and trying to FIND OUT the truth, to attempting to obfuscate the truth with quips and digital diarrhea? You see all that? That was me mocking you. In case you haven't figured that one out. I was mocking you by imitating you. Get it? It was funny.

LOL, that was funny. So you are an expert? Can I see your offical certification. And just because you write it, doesn't make it 'truth'. In this tread you dropped nothing but negative 'opinion' about Thomas and Bush. You see that is where you complex comes into play. You beleive your opinion to be truth. Get over yourself CK.

Last year The Dolphins ran for 1643 yards and finished 21st in the NFL at rushing yards.

A bulk of that was by R&R who are now gone. I do think it was time for both to move on.

But that doesn't leave us with alot of experience or production at the running back position.

Here are our current RB's and what they did last year

Bush 150 yards and no TD's
Sheets 0 yards
Hillard 0 yards
Grisby 1st year
Thomas 1st year

Anybody else worried?

Me too...lots of IFs there. Thomas may come thru, but he fumbled a lot in college. Bush has been injury prone and pedestrian as a running back and that was in a 3rd down role. Suddenly they expect him to be a featured back ?? Sheets...potential, but injuries have set him back...probably will make the team as a returner though. Hilliard...well some seem to think he could fill the role that Payton Hillis filled in Cleveland...but ahead of Bush and Thomas ?? Grigsby ?? Who knows...might develop but it's a long shot...

Yeah, I'm worried...
