The Dolphins continued to talk with the agent for offensive lineman Tom Ashworth, who has received interest from four teams, agent Tom Mills said.

If Ashworth signs with the Dolphins, he expects to compete with Vernon Carey for the right tackle spot, with the loser possibly moving to right guard and Rex Hadnot possibly moving to center.

i think it would be a great move to get him because it would allow us to move carey to gaurd where he is best at also it allows us to have a preety solid line which would allow us to pick a defensive back on defense.

also i trust our offensive line coach to pick the right people i mean look what he did last year he cut our sack total in half...imagine if he got the people he wanted in there

Your username makes me chuckle everytime I see it. :yes: Publix subs are delicious.

I also agree with your statement. Ashworth would give us flexibility with our line. He isn't a stud or superstar, but he's solid. Unfortunately some people on here think every free agent signing needs to be a pro bowl caliber player.

I would love him and Neal, take 2 solid lineman from the patriots and gives us good solid depth.

For the price of them two and perhaps even 2 more players we could sign 1 big name

I doubt we are trying to sign Ashworth to replace Vernon Carey...

We are looking for a swing Tackle. A backup guy that can play Left and Right. Carey had a promising season last year and is much more talented that Ashworth...

Plus this would give some competition to Carey...Carey is better suited for Tackle than guard ( in my humble opinion )

I don't get the impression that Carey is the most motivated guy in the world...

Carey has played equally well at both tackle and guard...he isn't necessarily best at RG...but the flexibility is what we need...

I agree... I think Ashworth would give us good depth at LT and RT. And the ability to compete with Carey at RT.
Ashworth played LT last year because of injury's. And got beat out by Brandon Gorin at the RT spot. Ashworth was used as a situational player by the end of the year.

Ashworth is not going to sign to back up anyone.. if that is the expectation...

He will not sign with us to play back-up. He will sign where he can start. He will not sign with Miami if that is the intention. He will play right tackle and Carey will shift to guard. Hadnot will play center. Otherwise that signing will not happen.

You may be right, but I would be suprised...

Last year when Stockar McDougle came into the game at RT they put Carey on the bench not at RG...

They flopped Carey between LT and RT...

Carey gave up like 2/3 sacks at RT, why would you replace that?

Good point, but from Ashworth's perspective he will not...

He will not sign with Miami without the expectation of starting. So if that is not Miami's intention he will not sign.

He is gonna have trouble starting for any team...

I think he will request the "opportunity" to start...

Let's not kid our selves...good RT ( and LT ) aren't available for cheap this late in Free Agency...Todd Wade got a 10 million signing bonus 2 years ago...

And he was average...

I believe that he would be a tremendous signing for the Phins. We could then rearrange the line so that each player would be playing at their top strengths.

LT = Shelton/Alabi
LG = James
C = Hadnot/Smith/Ephraim
RG = Carey
RT = Ashworth/Carey

This would allow us to go from an average OL to a pretty good one.

Ahh...the real question you must answer is "Boarshead or Publix Meat"? Publix is good, but there ain't nothin that compares to Boarshead.
