Just saw in the paper that Miami is opening as a 4 point underdog to the Falcons. I know it's still early and allot of months to go, but does anybody have an opinion on if this sounds about right or not.

I have seen this line also for the Dolphins/Falcons game. You have to remember that all home team usually gets 3 points off the bat in their calculation. For example, if this game was in Miami instead of Atlanta, the Dolphins would likely be a 2 point favorite.

Vegas sees Atlanta as having a one point edge over the Dolphins, which you could argue either way. Both won 11 games last season and went to the playoffs. I wouldn't say it is an outrageous line for the game.

How do these point things work? Never really understood it.. I'm pretty sure it doesen't literally mean 4 points as in two safeties..

No, just means its a point spread for the game. They expect the Falcons to beat the Dolphins by atleast 4 points. Its mainly just for betting and getting people to bet. If you were to bet on the Fins to win and the were -4, the Dolphins would have to lose by 3 or less for you to win the bet. Likewise if you were to bet on the Falcons you would need them to win by +4 or more.

Atlanta's defense is highly questionable. Dolphins will have a stout defense.

Dolphins win easily in a blowout.

Sounds like a reasonable line.
Usually home team gets 3 points.

Atlanta will be like Denver was last year...High power offense with bad to average defense. 4 points is a legitimate spread I'd say. Wont be a blowout but I like the Phins to win!

I think it's virtually impossible to set a line for the 1st game of the season. No one really knows how prepared or healthy either team will be come week 1. I think we have a good chance to win, but I certainly wouldn't want to bet on it.

I prefer the underdog role it gives the phins an edge!

Quick question to the betters here:

If you placed the bet now would it lock that bet in at Miami -4. Or would the bet change as the line changes?

I wouldn't say a blowout, their Offense is pretty tough, I've been watching some of their games from last year.....I was very impressed with Ryan, and his receivers are no joke, then you add in Gonzales you're talking good O..pelles was the TE I saw and he didn't do a bad job, but he's no Gonz by a mile.. Plus they were undefeated at home..so we have our work cut out for us. I'm just hoping those 5 players lost on D helps us..they didn't exactly replace them with vets.. Our Oline has to bring it's A game if we think to have a chance.. This is going to be a close game if we play great football.

Excellent. I want our guys with chips on their shoulders.
