I was listening to Sirius NFL Radio today and there was a discussion about Adrian Peterson slipping downward in the draft because of Cleveland's interest in drafting a QB. The talk was that should Peterson slip past Cleveland there could be little interest in him until the 10th pick (Atlanta) which we of course precede. So, if you are following me anyone interested in the top running back in the draft, knowing Atlanta would probably take him with the 10th pick would work very hard to beat Atlanta to him buy trading up to #9. So, this is a scenario in which we could benefit tremendously since, I like others, would like to trade down and acquire more picks. This would make Joe Staley a viable pick for us later in the round as well as enable us to address other needs such as secondary, WR or even TE with Greg Olsen. Granted this is a hypothetical with a lot of requirements but it is still possible. Thoughts??

No way in Hades will Peterson slip pass the Texans.

Well, playing this hypothetically, the Bills would jump on Peterson at #9 in front of the Falcons. McGahee is gone and they would like a RB. Miami can trade their #9 for the Bills #12 and 10th pick in the 3rd round (74 overall). Essentially we move 3 spots down and grab an extra 3rd round pick which would give us 5 picks in the first day. It would give us great opportunities to fill our holes. Remember, the Dolphins now preach quantity over quality so it could be plausible. However, trading with a Divisional rival could put them off. I'm not going to suggest who the Fins pick but here is a draft board that could help:

Even if Peterson was to fall to us (I don't see him getting pass Houston), every team knows we will not draft him. Especially if Ricky Williams is reinstated. Atlanta will not draft him as they are very high on Jerious Norwood and Warrick Dunn can probably go another year or two. San Francisco won't draft him because they have Gore and they need defensive help.

The only way Buffalo trades up if they are convinced Green Bay or someone else will try to move ahead of them to acquire him.

Now if by some chance he does fall to us and Buffalo is willing to trade with us, then I say go ahead and pull the trigger. We would move down three spots and still get the player we wanted plus an extra 3rd round pick.

I can see this happening , but would we pull the trigger on Peterson if he was there ?

With Meullers history of taking Deuce McAllister when they had RW on the roster in NO I wouldnt put it past him to take Peterson if he was there.

Although its not a need for the team its still a possibility this will happen (however unlikely)

But didn't that happen because Ricky was causing problems in N.O.? I could be wrong, but I thought that was the reason, and as far as I know Ronnie has been a model citizen.

Here is the trade.....what do you all think...

GB #16 pick to Miami for their #9 pick
Miami recieves GB #16 pick, 2nd Rd
Value Chart
Miami 1350 9th Pick
GB 1000 16th Pick
450 2nd Rd
Total Miami 1350 4 GB 1450

or

Miami recieves GB #16th, 3rd, 4th, 7th
Value Chart
Miami 1350 9th Pick
GB 1000 16th pick
190 3rd Rd
70 4th Rd
10 7th Rd
Total 1350 Miami 4 GB 1270

I would take the 2nd One if I where the GM

yea the 2nd one does sound better. I tried to convince myself that Houston wouldn't take him, but if Cleveland goes after a QB, who does that leave the Texans with going after?

although, that would give us 3 picks in the second, which would give us a chance to pick up some real difference makers.

I know this is all a pipe dream but knowing needs of these two franchises (GB & CHI) in the event of A. Peterson is on the board at our pick can this trade work. I also listed GB & Chi Picks in the trade and who we will select

GB
-Miami 9th pick --- A. Peterson (they need a RB)

Chi
-Miami 16th pick --- Greg Olson (they need a TE and it keeps him from NE/NYJ)

Miami
-GB 3rd, 4th, 7th
-CHi 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 6th

We recieve and choose
1st Rd (31st/CHI) Joe Staley OT Cent Michigan
2nd Rd (37thCHi/NYJ) WR Craig Davis LSU
2nd Rd (40th) QB Drew Stanton MSU
2nd Rd (60th/Welker trade:NE) CB Eric Wright UNLV
3rd Rd (71st) TE Ben Patrick
3rd Rd (78th/GB) OLB Justin Durant Hampton
3rd Rd (94th/CHI) DT Marcus Thomas UF
4th Rd (104) OG Manny Ramirez Texas Tech
4th Rd (108/GB) WR Brandon Myles WVU
6th Rd (158/Chi) C Doug Datish OSU
6th Rd (166) WR Yamon Figures
6th Rd (183/Wilkerson trade: DEN) RB Chris Henry Arizona
7th Rd (200) TJ Downing OG OSU
7th Rd (209/GB) Stephen Nicholas OLB USF
7th Rd (219/Welker trade: NE) WR Ryan Moore UM

Again, it is all fantasy and we may not draft or recieve this many picks, but what i am asking mostly can a trade down with both teams actually work based on their needs and the players they are interested in.

I would take the 2nd One if I where the GM

Both scenerios are off and not to our advantage
the first is off by 100 trade vaue points which is the
4th pick in the fourth round which we would have to ADD
to make the deal fair

the second scenerio is off by 80 points which would translate to the 11th pick in the fourth round which we would need to RECEIVE to complete the deal...100 and 80 value points are a considerable amount to either scenerio

Mueller traded Ricky Williams not because he didn't like him but because of what the Dolphins offered him in way of a trade. It allowed New Orleans to recoup some of what was lost in the all-for-one draft a couple of year earlier.

If Ricky is reinstated and someone was to offer us two first round picks for Ronnie Brown, I would have to think hard about pulling the trigger on that one.

The Jets and Bills would both love Peterson. I don't want to see him in the AFC East unless its in a Phins uniform.
He will be a special back.
