Miami wants to extend Wade's contract

The Dolphins have broached the subject of a contract extension for right offensive tackle Todd Wade but seem a long way from getting anything done.

Wade, who can become an unrestricted free agent after the season, is represented by Tom Condon, who has become a specialist in getting lucrative deals for offensive linemen.

This offseason, Condon worked out a deal for St. Louis to acquire tackle Kyle Turley from New Orleans, negotiating a five-year, $25 million deal that included a $10 million signing bonus.

The Dolphins aren't sure Wade, who has started each of his three seasons, is worth that much money.

IT would be nice to get this deal done early... before the season really gets started... need oline depth

I have a feeling that this season will be Wade's last in Miami. This guy is going to want a lot of money and he isn't worth it at all. We should let some other team overpay for him.

A long term deal might be get done but he is a restricted FA so he will be back at least for next year.

He has already stated he would like to get something done, but money is the last thing on his mind right now...he wants a ring.

He is entering his fourth season, which means he will be a UFA next year.

Teams always over pay for o-linemen now cos they're hard to come by.

Ozzy rules!!

He signed a four year deal, why would they do that... damn they should of gave him a three year deal..lol

keep our own.. sign him before we get a little success and then we cannot afford our own guys... if this is a superbowl caliber team and if we do win it all we should take appropriate measures to ensure $avings for the future...

Totally agreed. Wade is not annual Pro-Bowl caliber yet, but he is very good. He's still young, and he knows the schemes and the team. Resign him to a long contract and give us an anchor on the line so we don't have to worry about Wayne Gandys every offseason.

He's not worth Kyle Turley money, and he knows that. My hope is that we sign him now and then he steps it up to that level.

Wade is an average RT who can't handle speed guys and can get totally dominated at times (Pryce). If he pulls for one of those huge signing bonuses I'd be all for drafting a new RT.

Wade has been our most consisten offensive lineman the past few years...how could you say you would be willing to just draft a RT.

He has? Sorry to keep picking on you PT, but Wade has had some very big let downs in run blocking and pass protection.

If I was going to give that TAG to anyone it would have to be Perry then Ruddy, not Wade.

Oliver...

Most consistent? Jamie Nails was our best OL last year. Todd Perry was also quite consistent. Wade was great his first year, slumped in his 2nd year and was merely average the first half of last year before picking it up some in the 2nd half of the season although I think that had more to do with McMicheal doing more pulling and blocking on that side.

He is not worth those $10 million signing bonuses. If we are going to spend that type of dough it better be for a great LT. If Miami can get him signed in at $5-6 million in the signing bonus area then it's more feasable although I still think we would be overpaying some unless he puts it together and has a good solid year and not get dominated by guys like Pryce.

If he wants to go to FA then we should sit that same figure around and we will easily get a guy of Wade's talent at that price. Don't forget we need to find a way to resign Nails. If we can get them both under then hopefully the line next year will be Wade/Whitley/McKinney/Nails/Smith or FA pickup. I still think we will probably drop at least one pick most likely 2 on the offensive line next draft.
